  • Please review my 1st induction day menu

I would appreciate any feedback you have.

    Breakfast
    2 eggs

    Lunch
    1.75 cups of lettuce
    .25 cup mushrooms
small, thin ribeye "fried" in pam

    Dinner
    Chicken thigh and drumstick, broiled
1 cup (measured raw) steamed broccoli seasoned w/ olive oil & red pepper flakes

    Snack
    1/2 cup celery
    2 T cream cheese

    Totals
    12.6 grams total carbs
    4.6 grams fiber
    8 net grams carbs

The net carbs seem low. Is that okay?

    Thanks again!

You are right, your net carbs are low. Maybe change most of that lettuce for someting on the salad veg list with more carbs?
You food choices are 'legal' except I don't know what 'pam' is - I use butter for frying most of my meat and veggies as it tastes good and adds to the fat content of the meal.
Are you leaving the skin on the chicken?

Overall it doesn't look like much food though
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Elizellen is right, it's not "ok". The closer you are to 20 net, the more nutritionally sound your eating is.

Woo Daisy, I don't think you have enough food there. Remember we need to eat til we are comfortable but we need to eat. Add some bacon to those eggs and maybe a little cheese. Maybe 2 small thin ribeyes with mushrooms.

Re: Please review my 1st induction day menu

I guess I'm a bit confused. Is it okay to go over the prescribed amounts of veggies (3 cups) if your net carbs are low? I'm having trouble balancing the cups against the carbs.

Pam is a non-stick spray. Yes, I'm eating the skin on the chicken.

          thanks,

Yes. It's "icky". It can ruin your pan. Use real food ... real oil, real butter.

You can get the necessary net carbs and still have 3 cups ...

Here is my updated food journal. I made some changes to boost the carbs. My net carbs are now 14.9.

Well, I guess I'm over the three cups now. I'm getting frustrated, but will keep working on it.

I would cut back on the lettuce? Add some of the denser, higher carb vegetables from the lists.

Your calories are low ... more fat! Right now your protein % is too high.

Re: Please review my 1st induction day menu

I cut back to one cup of lettuce. My intention was to have a salad for lunch with lettuce, mushrooms, strips of steak and blue cheese crumbles.

Thanks for all of your help.

Mushrooms aren't a very carby vegetable.

                      Neither is lettuce.

You're not getting much "bang for your carb" buck.

                      You're welcome for the help!

What's wrong with Pam, I use it all the time. But I don't use non-stick pans either.
Daisy, don't try to overthink this diet or get stressed over it. Just count your carbs, eat till your satisfied, and enjoy the wonderful foods we get to eat.
Saying that, we try to aim for 60% fats, 5 % carbs and 35% protein and your last menu is almost spot on with 57/6/37.

                          All those propellants?? YMMV though!

                          >>we try to aim for 60% fats, 5 % carbs and 35% protein a>>

Actually, 35% is a bit high for most people ... a more normal range is 20-25%. And on Induction, a good range of fats is 60-75%. More than 1/3 of one's calories from protein could very well be "too much".

Ranges are easier than spot on numbers.

J why is 30% protein too much. we always have said that 30% of protein is what we sort of are aiming for in this diet (this number was derived from a harvard study on atkins menus way back when, I believe) but you keep saying 20. What is the deal here? curious people (that is me ) wants to know

As for PAM I would not use it either. I would hate for my oil to have ingredients - and soy. Yuck. My oil is just oil and I like it that way

But Daisy I thought your menu was pretty good - maybe a bit sparse. You do not want to starve. What are you drinking

The Pam I use is made with canola oil, not soy. But I am changing to Cold Pressed Canola as soon as I finish up the last of my oil.
