I am coming of some meds for post partum. I am 40 years old this month on the March 26th. I am weighing in at a wopping 231. I was 211 approx 7 weeks ago. The meds made me put on allot of weight despite going to Yoga on Mondays and 1.5 ours of walking and gym Tuesday-Friday. I am down to the last week of my pills and have lost 3 children for fluke reasons. I am feeling down and hopeless. I keep trying induction and setting myself up for failure. I am not sure why I am getting so discourage. I have a medical procedure tomorrow called a cystoscope and feel nervous about it. My bladder has been giving me some problems in the past but seems fine right now. My condo is under reno's not by choice due to structural problems. I lost my job this year after 9 years and developed a breathing issuee from my condo repairs and have since then had to move into my community room with my husband and dog and still have to come to my condo for showers and clothing. Is it just me or does this not seem like the worst time someone turing 40 could have. I need all the support I can get right now and I need to lose this weight. I just feel horible and need to talk to someone.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Hi Health. Wow, will all that, I can understand why your having troubles. BUT we can do this and just remember it's not your fault.
Circle a day on the calendar and decide you will be cheat free on that day and plan for it. Plans on having yummy foods and think positive about the whole thing. Once you get day one planned and then executed, you will find day 2 is easier. But if not, try again. It might take you a few times, but who cares, you can do it and will. Its like making the plan your own. Some folks can just get right in there and do it, others take a few trys at it before they succeed.
Come visit us often and even start a journal. There is one called Journal Chat where folks can come in and encourage you and there is another that is strickly for you to post in.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Thank you so much for your reply Dessertthorn. I will take your advise and plan my day today. I will eat clean and do induction as stated. I know LC works however; I am sure it will be tougher for me this time around. I just have to move forward and try to look at some positive although I am having hard times. I look forward to getting to know you on my journey. Thanks again for checking in.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Don't lose heart, HealthNut...this is all temporary. Eventually all the renovations will be done, your condo will be better, you'll have everything at your fingertips, etc. What can happen now is a true test of your will - you can find a way to make things happen (like preparing ahead of time for those cheat free days) and forgive yourself if you slip up. If you can get through this rough time and still have yourself, your goals and your sanity intact - you are victorious! Just think how great it will feel to come out the other side, 40 and fabulous! It doesn't all have to happen by your birthday. You can continue to make your 40th year your best yet! I know it looks bleak now but you can make it happen, little by little, one day at a time. Don't expect perfection expect your best.
I think you can do it! Keep your chin up and your hopes high. You can find another job (even if its a temporary one to pay the bills while you find a better one), you can conquer your weight (Atkins is the best and healthiest way to do it), and your health can be managed. Don't despair - its the worst thing you can do. Think positively and your world will change. (((HUGS))) to you! Even when things seem bleak, that just means that it can only get better from here because if you're at the bottom, the only place to go is UP!
I hope this helps and doesn't sound silly.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Thanks for stopping by Michelle. You have great words of wisdom. Yes, this is a trying time. I am taking this time off to work on myself. I am going to adhere to this induction and I know I can do it. I just have to check in and read my positive posts. I really appreciate your input right now its greatly needed and appreciated. I have not felt really hungrey today and its only day 1 after yesterdays cave in to pizza. I had an egg and 1/2 a sausage. I am not sure my appetite is intack today as I have to go in for a medical procedure tomorrow. Little nervous. I hope to stay on track and think positive thoughts. Positive energy to you to.

I hope your medical procedure goes well. I think you're going to do well with your plans. Hang tight and try to keep it together as best you can!
Even if its just your attitude that's on the upswing, it's a good sign. I am glad my words helped. If anything just to say, hang in there! You'll make it!

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Just a quick note today as I had my medical procedure done. All went well and stayed on plan. Day 2 of Induction so hope to continue. Having the crazy sugar cravings. I get them often even after 3 or 4 weeks on induction. Does anyone have some suggestion. Look forward to hearing from you guys. PS. Thanks for being there when I needed someone.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
I am glad to know the procedure went well
AS for the sugar cravings, are you eating anything with 'hidden' sugar in it - there are many aliases for sugar so recheck labels for ingredients on any processed foods you are eating. If none list corn syrup/hfcs/fructose/dextrose or any of the many other names for sugar then it might be that one of the 'legal' foods you are eating are causing the cravings.
Members here have discovered sometimes that things like celery have woken cravings for them and need to be avoided
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Try dill pickles with NO SUGAR added for sweet cravings!! I know many people who have tried it and it really works for them. Of course, it doesn't work for everyone but it's worth a shot!
Hang in there! There's so much going on in your life right now. Hold on tight to the only thing you can control....what you do for your body!

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Thanks for stopping by everyone. I look forward to getting new messages and it helps keep me on track. I just found out that what ever substance they gave me at the hospital kicked me out of Ketosis as I was up 2 pds this morning. GOD! how discouraging. I tested the pee stick and I am not in ketosis anymore. I need to start from scratch. UGGGGG! I know hang in there. Does anyone have any ideas? I have started induction about 3X in the last 2 weeks. I think my body has lost its golden ticket...Do I carb myself up for a few days and start or what do I do. I think my body has stalled for good. I need some good advise. Thanks everyone.

What's the betting it had sugar in it? That is where your cravings have come fromOriginally posted by Health Nut View PostI just found out that what ever substance they gave me at the hospital kicked me out of Ketosis as I was up 2 pds this morning.
Now all you need to do is make sure you have plenty of 'legal' high fat (or sour) snacks to eat if the sugar monster starts calling for 'sweet' again.
No need to start induction again (if by that you mean start counting your 14 days again)and certainly no need to eat off-plan foods for a few days...Do I carb myself up for a few days and start or what do I do. I think my body has stalled for good. I need some good advise. Thanks everyone.
Just carry on eating to plan induction-style till you are ready to move to OWL.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Yes, what Elizellen said! Don't keep starting over because then you've got a non-stop endless win/lose, succeed/fail, all or nothing mentality going on. Atkins is so much more than a diet or short term 14 day induction period - it is a way of eating that can be done for life!
Induction is just a way to kickstart yourself for two weeks unless you choose to do extended induction. So definitely just keep counting the days that you're on and you'll be back in ketosis very shortly I bet. I tend to have cravings when I let myself get too hungry as well or don't eat often enough. Make sure you're eating often (every 2-3hrs, which is especially helpful during that time of the month) and that will help keep some of the cravings away - even if you don't feel like eating. Now was your test strip completely negative? Didn't change at all? Because even a pale pale pink means something's going on. Don't lose heart, you're on the right track and in a couple of days things will look different. However even if you continue to have cravings (and some of us do like during TOM) it's good to know what they are, recognize them and realize they are not controlling you, you can always eat a legal snack and sit back and relax for a while (read a book??) and find that in a little while, its gone and it was due to hunger. I still get what seem to be emotional cravings for sugar. For instance, hubby bought a case of Girl Scout Caramel Delights. Ugh! Then he opens the package, puts the tray of cookies right there on the coffee table in front of me, offers me one (fully knowing I am not eating sugar and eating low carb) says, "There are no carbs in these, eat one!" I say, "no thank you" and yet they still sit there. For a while I even considered having one, they looked good. Just one. I got up and got myself a low carb snack on the off chance perhaps I was hungry (I love cut up cheese and Oscar Meyer hot dogs, I know, processed meat but its GOOOD) so after that I drank some water I realized that I was no longer needing any cookies or even wanting any. I felt victorious. Lesson learned, I was hungry. Try whatever strategy you think might work for you. Granted cheats happen but minimizing the damage is paramount to success.
Just do your best!
I hope you're well.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
Thanks for stopping by Happy. Great advice. I know no lose as of yet this morning but I did have extra carbs good ones yesterday was really hungrey so had some black olives for a snack. I think that stalled me this morning or I am just not losing still from the medical procedure. I will try and drink more water today. Way to go on resisting temptation. That is awesome and I am sure your body loves you for it today.

Re: Health Nut(Not doing well)
No. I have decided to do an extended induction phase and i can honestly say that i have had the craves for "the old goodies". You know what? I gave in, knowingly and deliberately. I had a good conversation with myself and decided to break my induction just to break the monotony. I know, i know, it doesn't need monotonous, but it is where i live.
Latinos have it tough. We LIVE on junk carb-high foods. Mainly because these have been so over processed that whatever good they had, its gone and all that it is left are just plain and clean carbs.
For me, going to the supermarket is a complete spelunking adventure. Most of the time i need to end up going to "health" supermarkets (those covering the vegan and vegetarian niches) to actually get some of my veggies and other supplies. Needless to say, those are really expensive. So, i have had to do as best as i can with the offerings i get. Blessedly, i love to cook, yet there are days that i am all spent and poping in the kitchen to make a meal feels so unappetizing. I do anyways, but is those times that i really miss take out. Needless to say that having good snacks or desserts is another problem altogether. I have taken to eating slices of ham or turkey ham, fried pork rinds and sugar free jello. I have also decided to start making my own desserts. I have a recipe for atkins cheese cake and i am getting ready to bake it.
What i am trying to say is: Don't loose heart. I have cheated, knowingly cheated twice on my extended 2 month induction phase and did it to break monotony and i can tell you that you can go back to ketosis if you stick to your guns in only 3 days.
Best of luck (not luck, luck if for the untrained) success (we are professionals
