  • starting tomorroww!!! please read! need help!

i am SO fat! i hate my body, i hate everyytthiinggg that i see in the mirror. it's GROSS. and today i ate CHINESE FOOD. ugh, i now regret ordering that. today i realized that i am GROSS looking, and i know i need to do something about it.

i went online, and i signed up for a 10k. it's on March 27th, and i know 3 weeks isn't enough time to train, but i did run track in high school, so im gonna run 6.2 miles daily until the big race. it's for a good cause, and it'll helpe me lose some weight. so it's a win-win situation.

i need some pointers on how to do the atkins diet. i haven't read the book or anything, but i did read EVERY single success story (which was VERY motivating, thank you all for posting them, you were an inspiration!) and i would love to learn more about this diet, with everyone's personal experiences. i'd really appreciate that i'm being very reasonable and realistic about this diet, i know that i won't lose it all within a couple weeks, however, i do want to get started, and i want to stay motivated.

i'm very ashamed of my current weight. i weigh 185 and i am 5'6. my ultimate goal is 130. i do not feel pretty, and i am very insecure about myself. i would love to lose a lot of weight before summer time, and i plan on working out daily, and eating healthy, and sticking to the atkins diet. i plan on using this bulliten board to post updates and progress. and hopefully some day i can be an inspiration to some people like you all were to me.

thanks for taking the time out to read this

Welcome to ADBB and to Atkins

buy the book so you know what you will be doing and why.
While you are waiting for it to arrive you can read the how to do stickies

If you can run 6.2 miles every day you must be in pretty good shape. I know when I started atkins I couldn't even go 2MPH for 20 min on the treadmill.

Welcome Miss, and I agree with 2big, you have to read the book to understand why and how this plan works. Glad you found us and joined and already found a buddy.

            Hello, and welcome.

Most of us can relate. But don't be so harsh on yourself, and be patient. You did not gain the weight in 2 weeks...

As others have said, read the book, I know you might think that you can find a lot of info on the web, but reading the book is important because you will see how this is a Way of Living, and not a "diet".

When you get that, you will not feel deprived , or have that thought of I can't have this " i'm on a diet" ... It will make you understand that your body just ca't process right the carbs and that you got to switch your menu to other types of food, yummy foods.

Remember that if you do this change, you'll for sure loose weight, but if you go back to your past habits you'll gain it all over again.

I wish you good luck! and keep posting!!

Hi MissPrimaDonna!!! I'm new to it myself! You don't have to actually buy the book, most libraries should have that 2002 edition of the book (my library does!) but get it and read it because everything is explained thoroughly. It is a very specific lifestyle and has specific rules that you must follow in order for it to me called the Atkins diet.

You must be prepared to show all forms of shitty carbs (aka white sugar, white flour, rice, bread, high carb fruits, high carb veggies like corn and potatoes, pasta, soda, fries, chocolate, candy, etc) the big fat F&*K YOU! DOOR and introduce large amounts of meat and eggs, water, activity, and enough salad veggies to equal to 20 net carbs a day. Contrary to what we've all been taught in this great big bread loving world, the human body is not designed to digest the amout on carbohydrates that the money hungry, corn-subsidizing government wants you to eat.

Also, go to the official website and there are lots of good tips and advice. The basic rules are also on there as well but it's best if you get the book because that was actually written by Dr. Atkins himself. He's the reason we are all in this together. But he has unfortunately passed on. Let's keep his legacy alive by doing his diet and lifestyle plan the way he meant it!!!

                  Good suggestion, Ultrachic

Not really 'large amounts' of meat and eggs - many of us are eating about the same amount of these as we used to do pre-Atkins.
And the rule about how many net carbs to eat is
                  3. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see the list of acceptable vegetables on pages 125-126).
And remember that eggs and cheese and cream do have carbs in them so need to be counted in your 'up to 20 net carbs'
Also, go to the official website and there are lots of good tips and advice. The basic rules are also on there as well but it's best if you get the book because that was actually written by Dr. Atkins himself. [/QUOTE]Though there is a lot of good info there, the atkins company has tweaked things quite a bit to allow their lowcarb products, which you need to check the ingredients of to decide which phase of Atkins they are really 'legal' for no matter what the label 'blurb' claims
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
