  • I am not hungry.........What do I do?

    Hi Guys,

    Today I am trying to get all of my water in, but as a result no appetite. What do you do on the days when you just don't feel like eating. I am thinking about just eating enough vegetables to meet the carb count requirment with some fat and skip the meat. Is that safe in induction? I am on my 11th day.

    Loss of appetite is a sign of ketosis. So congrats, you are in ketosis.

    According to Dr. Atkin's book, you should go no more than 6 waking hours without eating something. And your meals should be combinations of fat, protein and carbs.

    Moreover according to Dr. Atkins book, you should be eating no more than 20 net carbs daily and most of those carbs should be from the 3 cups of veggies. But if 3 cups of veg are too filling and are preventing you from eating meat/protein, then you might want to spread that veg out more evenly during the day, rather than having 1 cup at every meal, have 1/2 cup at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, then a 1/2 cup for morning snack, afternoon snack and bedtime snack.

      You run the risk of putting your body in famine mode. Been there, done that.

      Skipping the protein isn't a good idea ... it's something your body needs. You don't want to risk losing lean muscle.

      You can graze more frequently ...

      This loss of appetite is a natural part of ketosis ... and it's important for many to just eat through it.

        What atkins recomends when not being hungry is eat a little protein with your supplements.

          If you don't eat meat, your not doing induction, or atkins.
          Imo still eat every few hours then, it will keep your metabolism running xD

                do i have to eat veggies? i have book that talks about the foods allowed in the 14 days,, it does mention some vegg but doesnt say have to eat ,, should i be eating them?

                  Here we go by the 2002 edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution which says that most of our 'up to 20 net carbs' should be coming from our vegetables, of which we can eat up to 3 cups from the 2 lists on induction.

                  So if you are eating no vegetables and therefore are eating no vegetable carbs you should not be eating eggs, cream, cheese or sweeteners which all have carbs.
                  That would be a very boring food choice to my mind.
                  Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                    well technically you do not have to eat any veggies BUT since the majority of our carbs MUST come from the veggies you can't eat anything else with carbs so no cheese, herbs spices, coffee, tea, soft drinks, eggs, cream, shell fish, nor anything else that has any carbs in it.

                    that would leave you plain salted meat, finfish, pork, poultry, and game, ( pepper has carbs as does all the seasoning mixes) nonhydrogrenated pure healthy fats and WATER.

                    doesn't seem like a very healthy nor tasty way to do atkins.

                    When we are not hungry and it has been 6 hrs we are supposed to eat a small snack that is legal for our phase.

                    Your body will tell you when it is hungry if you listen closely even with the ketosis appetite suppression. things like getting agitated for no reason, shakey, feeling tired, light headed, confused thinking, dizzy,sweaty when not hot, headache, and/or any other way your body says feed me.
                    When it does tell you feed me then you will eat a meal and stop when your hunger is satisfied. During your time from staert to maintnenace you will have some days you are not hungry and need that 6 hr rule and other days you are very hungry and think you are over eating your atkins and normal days of eating as you think you should. As long as each time you ate not using the 6 hour rule you stopped eating when your hunger was satisfied even if you had room in your tummy food on the plate and carbs in your budget then you eat the right amount.

                      That's not true at all! One can definitely do Atkins as a vegetarian... and even vegans can do Atkins as long as they don't start with Induction.

                      Eating more often helps some people to avoid overeating and, logically, it makes it easier to spread the net carbs in smaller "portions" throughout the day, consequently minimizing the chances of having blood sugar spikes/drops.

                      However, as far as I know, there's no evidence that not eating every few hours slows down one's metabolism in between meals. Do you have a reference for that?

                        Thanks to everyone for the tips. I am glad I am finally in ketosis. I eventually ate some chicken and roasted green beans in butter sauce last night. Today I started my new plan of eating by the clock (read it on a thread here) I have planned 4 mini meals with two snacks. This way is a lot better. And I am very proud to say, I got all my water requirement! It is easier while in ketosis. I am very thirsty now.
