  • Tom?

Girls I was wondering if you feel flabby a week before TOM...I am 6 days away and 3 days ago I felt great and my jeans felt good and just generally felt confident!
Today I feel flabby I haven't gained any weight..I can't explain how bad I felt going out today! My face felt bloated,my tummy flabby, and just hated all my clothes arghh horrible! I haven't cheated at all so was just wondering ........do any of you feel this bad a week before TOM? Thanks for reading

    Re: Tom?

The problem with starting any new eating plan is that we start to notice changes that previously probably did happen but went unnoticed.
I bet that you experienced this each monthly cycle before, but were not watching your body for changes so feel they are new.

Most of us lucky ladies experience 'some' effects either just before, during or after our time of the month. Some people actually gain up to 10 pounds each cycle which depart afterwards!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Re: Tom?

I retain water---up to 3-5 pounds. AND I bloat, so my clothes become tighter as do my rings and bracelets.

Thinking about what Eliz wrote about not noticing it before.....I didn't. But then I rarely weighed myself before my Atkins, and I didn't wear clothes that were form-fitting---always loose, stretchy stuff. And I didn't wear rings and bracelets because I couldn't find any that would fit me.

          Re: Tom?

I've been watching my weight for quite some time now and I HATE HATE HATE my TOM. I think its half of my life at this point, maybe more. 3 weeks out of 4 I am dealing with some sort of cycle-related thing. Either PMS, bloat, actual TOM stuff (which can last 10days for me now), and when that goes away, its already almost time for PMS again. Someone just needs to shoot me and put me out of my misery!!! It's gotta be perimenopause or something. Hello mid-thirties! Ugh.

Just wanted to share that I can relate. Now not only do I have the monthly bloating to deal with, I deal with gaining 3-5lbs whenever I do a really tough or intense or long run. Being that I am training for a half marathon, that's pretty much every run (not really but the bloat lasts through the easy, low intensity runs too). So frustrating! I have put on 4-5lbs of the 7 that I initially lost since starting Atkins and I am about to lose my mind. No inches lost since the gain either. What is my body doing???

              Re: Tom?

I make it a rule not to weigh, measure, etc. during my TOM. It's too discouraging and demoralizing. And I try to keep in mind that the TOM effects are not permanent, so I shouldn't lose any sleep over it.

                  Re: Tom?

I get the same thing week before TOM and also during ovulation. So that's 2 weeks out of the month of retaining water and feeling bloated. Sucks but what can you do?

                          Re: Tom?

I find that if I up my water drinking much more during my TOM that the bloating is not as bad. Also, exercise is great for it, even if you feel like crap. Keep those muscles moving and warmed up and the cramps aren't as bad. Sometimes I have to force myself to go, but once class is over at 6:30 I usually don't have any cramps for the rest of the night

Hi Michelle, no way hahaha! I havent done anything and i'm not attached whatsoever. I think it is just stress and a real big change in environments for me. (Just came over to the states for couple months) Plus I've recently started excercising quite rigorously doing more intense workouts weight lifts.

i also find that extra water and some exercise make me feel much better.
i'm feeling crappy tonight and wanting junk, but i know that it's tom knockin on the door. lol

that and i'm going to be on a plane for 5 hours tomorrow, and then 5 hours on tuesday. i retain water like crazy when travelling. ugh. combine that with tom and i'm sure all my clothes will be snug.
