  • Extended Induction or Not

    Hi All,

I am day 12 of my Inductions Phase. I only weighed once, 3 pounds down. I do not know why it took so long to truly get into ketosis I really have been sticking to the diet. Getting that veggie count is a little difficult, but I am doing my best. And I am pround to say I have not slipped once. Not even chocolate on my TOM.

I planned on an Extended Induction but readiing through some of the older threads that may not be such a wise decision. So I pose the question to some of the more experienced dieters. Shoudl I stay in this phase because it took so long to get to ketosis? Should I move on to OWL and see if that works better?

How do you know that it took long to get into ketosis?
I would weigh at day 14 and then read chapter 13 and think about what Atkins is saying there.

I stayed on extended until recently have started on the rungs. I have no regrets staying on induction. I gave me a chance to really adjust and understand the base of the diet before I moved on. I didn't feel like I had a firm enough grasp on it in 14 days and I was happy where I was at. When that changed and I wanted to add a few more things in, I followed the books suggestion and moved on up. So far so good, will weigh in on Monday and see how adding nuts (natural peanut butter) is going.

        >>I do not know why it took so long to truly get into ketosis>>

How do you know it took "so long"? And what exactly is "so long"?

        >>houdl I stay in this phase because it took so long to get to ketosis? Should I move on to OWL and see if that works better?>>

What do you mean by "works better"?

What does your reading of chapters 12 and 13 tell you?

          Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I checked out the DANDR book from the library and read the sugggested chapters. Although, my rate of matabolic resistant is avg (lost 8lbs on induction) I decided to move to OWL just to add a little more to the menu. Bought some strawberries today and I feel like that is the little jump I need in my menu.

Moving on to the OWL part of the forum. See you there .

The first thing you add in OWL is 5 net carbs of vegetables. Berries only come in OWL Rung 4.

Chapter 14 in DANDR 2002 explains the OWL phase.
