I found this on the Atkin Website, can someone explain?

  • I found this on the Atkin Website, can someone explain?

    Eat no more than 20 grams a day of Net Carbs, 12 to 15 grams of them as foundation vegetables. . This means you can eat approximately six loosely packed cups of salad and two cups of cooked vegetables per day. Remember, carb counts of various vegetables vary, so be sure to check them.

    I am alittle confused I thought we could only eat 2 cups of salad vegetables and 1 cup of the others, but now I see we can eat up to 6 cups, is this correct?

    I thought it was 2 salad and 1 other too. I would stick to that as it sounds more likely!

      looks like they read here and know about building our house of atkins with a good foundation with our legal induction veggies as the main source of our carbs and staying under 20 net.

      However you misquoted them it says

      This is the equivalent of approximately six cups of salad and two cups of cooked vegetables, depending upon the ones you select, each day, well in excess of the USDA’s recommended guidelines.
      if one picks wisely from those 2 cup salad veggies and one cup other veggies one can be at 12-15 net grams of carbs and still have room for the carbs from the eggs cheese spices and herbs and any legal salad dressings or condiments used.

      I would worry if somebody took them at your word and picked 6 cups opf red peppers along with 2 cups of spaghetti squash as their allowed amounts.

      stick with Dr Atkins DANDR 2002 limits and you will be an aktins success story too.

        We don't use the same rules as Atkins.com. We use the book Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, written by .. Dr A. They have evolved and have changed their rules. They also recommend using Shakes and Bars made by Atkins.com We don't as we don't feel they are either good for your health or your weight loss.

            I agree about the shakes and the bars, they can be very bad your meal plan and cause you to over eat ( speaking from experience here : ))

              Keep in mind that atkins.com follows the new 2010 book recently released and ADBB follows DANDR 2002 (Dr. Atkins' last release). The core idea of Atkins is the same but there are quite a few differences and trying to follow the advice of both sites could be very confusing especially at first during Induction.

                    there's a bunch of tv commercials here in the US now.. and magazine ads touting the new version.. the 2010 version.. so it's understandable that there's confusion...

                      What Are Foundation Vegetables?

                      When a construction crew builds a house, do they start with the roof or the windows? Of course not. They begin with the foundation upon which everything else rests. When you begin Atkins in Phase 1, Induction, you switch to a new way of eating that will ultimately build the new you. In order to shift your body over to burning primarily fat—instead of carbs, in the form of glucose—for energy, you’ll consume only 20 grams of Net Carbs. You’ll be getting your carbs primarily, at least in Induction, from the leafy greens and other high-fiber, nonstarchy vegetables known as foundation vegetables.                         Can you imagine someone who thinks they hate veggies being told to eat 6 cups of salad and 2 cups of cooked veggies in addition to giving up bread, pasta and fruit?

                          Six cups of salad is allot. You will be tired before you get started. No I thought it was 2 cups. The new atkins is trying to make themselves acceptable to the rest of the world but it slows down the weight loss. I agree the only way to do it is the Dr. Atkins way. He designed it like that for a reason. You will come out allot healthier in the end.

                            I always saw the veggie by cup measurement in DANDR as a way to show people proper portion control. Dr. Atkins also probably thought it was clear that people should eat a variety of veggies from the lists. Unfortunately so many newbies just eat some lettuce and maybe a little cuke and therefore are not getting the required carbs and nutrition.

                            Atkins 2010 is trying to address that issue but I think the lettuce crowd will still not get those key points of the nutrition in a variety of veggies and portion control.
