Please excuse my ignorance but what is the veggie by cup measurement in DANDR?
2 cups salad veggies + 1 cup other veggies on the Induction food list.

Salad veggies are much more than lettuce.

If you think that's because of the vegetables, can you explain how exactly that happens since one can eat the same number of net carbs in 3 or 6 cups?

          It does say:

"In a typical day, you can have up to 4 ounces of most cheese (but not cottage cheese or ricotta), 10 black or 20 green olives, half a Haas avocado (the kind with a blackish pebbly skin), an ounce of sour cream or 2–3 tablespoons of cream, and up to 3 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice. The carbs in these foods must be counted in your 20 grams of Net Carbs."

Is it ok to have the 6 cups per day?

If by "ok" you mean, "can I get all the benefits of Induction [see Ch. 12] by eating 6 cups of vegetables per day but limiting myself to 20 net carbs worth of food?", then my answer is yes. I've seen people being successful with eating 3 cups of vegetables on Induction and people being successful with counting net carbs and not paying any attention to cups. I've also seen people who failed with eating 3 cups and also people who failed with counting net carbs, but that wasn't because the plan didn't work, but because they weren't following it properly or they stopped following it all-together.

If you are asking whether it's OK to eat 6 cups of any vegetables, then the answer is no. You need to make sure you restrict yourself to no more than 20 net carbs in total (the total includes carbs from eggs, cheese, cream, spices, some meats, avocado, olives, lemon/lime juice and sweeteners).

If you are asking whether it's OK to eat 20 cups of lettuce as long as you don't go over your net carbs, then again I'll have to say no. Depending on what you add to that mountain of lettuce (dressing, cheese), you will probably be overeating calories or consuming too many calories on not-so-nutritious foods (like dressing). Furthermore, while some lettuces are nutritious, you need more than lettuce for proper nutrition.

If you think getting your net carbs from vegetables in approximately 3 cups will help you with portion control, then stick to approximately 3 cups per day. From an email conversation I had with Jackie Eberstein, my understanding is that portion control is not what Dr. Atkins had in mind with 3 cups and if one eats only very low carb vegetables, then one will eat more than 3 cups. You might want to check the links below to see examples of how you can get most of your daily net carbs from vegetables while eating 3 cups per day. With smart choices, it's definitely possible.

              Induction Menu #1 AtkinsNotes

I think you should pick whichever method of counting you think is best for you. As I've said, both methods can lead to success. But regardless of which method you pick, make sure you don't go over 20 net carbs per day. Spread your net carbs (over half of which should come from vegetables) throughout the day, to avoid blood sugar spikes and have your vegetables with some fat and/or protein. And lastly, make nutritious choices (eating only iceberg lettuce, for example, is NOT good), as good health is one of the principles behind Atkins and certain nutrient deficiencies can interfere with weight loss.

on their new foods for induction page they list cream in the beverages with no limits on serving size

                      Beverages
                      • Clear broth/ bouillon (make sure it has no sugars added)
                      • Club soda
                      • Cream, heavy or light.
                      • Decaffeinated or regular coffee and tea*
                      • Diet soda (be sure to note the carb count)
                      • Flavored seltzer (must say no calories)
                      • Herb tea (without added barley or fruit sugar added)
                      • Water – at least eight 8-ounce glasses per day including...
                        • Filtered water
                        • Mineral water
                        • Spring water
                        • Tap water
                      * You may have 1 to 2 cups of caffeinated tea or coffee if you can tolerate caffeine without experiencing cravings or symptoms of hypoglycemia.
If you are truly addicted to caffeine, it's best to break the habit during the Induction.
luckily they do explain a bit more about the veggie servings on that list page

You should be eating approximately 12 to 15 grams of net carbs per day in the form of vegetables, which is equivalent to several cups depending on the actual carb content of the veggies you select.
so we shouldn't have anybody eating 2cups of other veggies and 6 cups of salaf veggies and being over 20 net but following the rules frpm the rules page

Yes... no mention of the cream limit on the Acceptable Foods List. There are several mistakes on that list. Green beans are missing, some carb counts are off... and if you open the PDF, you'll see beets (instead of beet greens) among the allowed veggies.

and they left out the aged hard or soft firm full fat cheese description from the cheese. there are going to be folk eating rung 2 as induction for most fresh cheese other then the cottage cheese listed in the rules as not allowed.
