  • Is it ok?

I know we are supposed to drink alot of water on Atkins, but I find it hard to drink just water, I have found a drink in my local Tescos which is their own make called White Grape and Blackberry, slightly sparkling spring water drink it says with a hint of white grape and blackberry, no artificial flavours or colours, its carb value is 0.3g per 100ml of which all are sugars, the sweetener used is Sucralose which I think is the only one preferred like splenda, also contains potassium sorbate, and dimethly dicarbonate.

Do you think this is an ok substitute for water as long as we watch the carbs?

It's not allowed on Induction because it contains grape juice concentrate.

Sweeteners are also limited to 3 servings per day, so you could drink at most 24 oz (a serving is 8 oz of drink).

Besides, it would not count as water. Only pure water counts as water, according to Dr. Atkins.

You don't have to drink "just water". You can drink tea, too, for example. It just doesn't count as water.

lol yes, I know we can drink tea and coffee etc, but I dont think I could drink as much of that, maybe a cup or two a day which would not be enough liquids I dont think, Im not a great fan of tea or coffee tbh, so if its ok to drink this sparkling water then I would rather drink that, more refreshing.

Plus I cant drink tea or coffee black so would have to put cream in it, which I find too much so thats why i limit my tea and coffee.

The only liquid that counts as water is water though, so it wouldn't matter anyway.

It's not acceptable on Induction. You can have it in OWL Rung 7, if you want.

hardly anybody liked drinking just water when they started doing atkins but after a week or two water will begin to taste much better. if your local water doesn't taste good then you can get a filter pitcher or a screw on filter to improve the flavor just don't git the one that does shots of flavored junk in the water on demand.

Over the years you've trained your taste buds to think they need flavor all the time, including in your drinks. You can just as easily train them to love nice pure water. Will take a few weeks but it can be done. I personally love water, gave up drinking anything else in high school because I realized I had a serious addiction to Pepsi and that wasn't healthy for me. So I drink water like other people drink coffee, pop etc. I love my water.

                Re: Is it ok?

ohhh ok.. thats a big disappointment, thought I found something which I like that was ok, but oh well.

The water where I live is not very nice has so many additives in it, it tastes like drinking a cup of bleach, really not good. So will have to buy bottled water I guess.

Thank you both for your replies

Noooo i missed 2Bigs message, how wierd is that? thanks for the nudge Georgiana.

A filter is a brilliant Idea and much cheaper than buying bottles all the time, I had totally forgotten about these things, thanks 2Big

you are welcome. We got one cause after the draught around here the water was tasting funky. If you get the screw on kind you can tak it on vacation with you and filter that water to.

I love thwe knob on the filter so I don't fiter the washing water and just the consuming water.

                        Re: Is it ok?

We are going to drive thru europe later on in spring so would be really useful to have one like that then. I usually live over in sweden and the water there is pure and chilled and wonderful, I dont have a problem there but here in the UK where I am living its just like drinking bleach

But drinking anykind of water is not a problem the way I feel right now, I have my ankles back they are no longer swollen and puffed up, its day 6 of atkins and daily things seem to be happening, feel so much better. Even if I dont lose so much weight it doesnt matter although that would be nice, but just to feel the pain go in my knees and back.. and seeing my ankles without them being swollen is just wonderful... I would stay on here for ever.

Im trying out so many different recipes from the recommended Induction recipe sites and most are delicious. I could rave on about how I feel alnight.. but you probably already know, thanks 2Big

Just wondering....Ummm just one more question..sorry to be a pain harping on about this water thing but, couldnt help notice that in a couple of induction recipes, vanilla extract and peppermint were used, so if you can use it in these shakes, and mousse recipes would it be ok to put the flavouring in water.... ?

you may not like extract in water as it contains alcohol that will not be cooked out in your water.

You could use ther zest of a lemon or lime and in DANDR it says we can use 2 tablespoons of either as part of our induction foods so you could add a bit of them to your water if you still need flavor.

some folk add sliced cucumbers to thier water. me I just toughed it out giving up my diet coke for water and after a week the water tasted okay.

Thanks for your reply 2Big, I tried a dash of Peppermint flavouring in a bottle of Evian Water which tasted quiet refreshing, Im not sure what was in the flavouring as there were really no ingredients listed except to say flavouring.

Sounds nice with the lemon/lime Zest though will put some in the water of my water filter jug that I bought today
