  • 1st Day and I'm already doing it wrong

Today is my first day. I ate two eggs this morning, and had a cup of coffee. Then I stopped at the gas station and grabbed a sugar free energy drink that said 0 carbs. At work, I ate one small chicken leg quarter and a small chicken leg. I'm drinking my second diet soda. Then I start exploring the site a little and had forgotten about the caffiene in the coffee being a no-no., I imagine that means the energy drink is a no-no as well (caffiene), The diet sodas are a no-no because they are sweetened with aspartame. I bought some decaf coffee for the morning, I need to buy some splenda.

I know I screwed up today, but I am committed to doing this the right way. I need to buy some water to bring with me.

I need to lose weight. I can't stand to look at my self in the mirror or hear my wife stretch the truth when she says," your still sexy to me."

When I get home from work, I am going to reread the induction part of the book. I feel like I cheated on the diet and I didn't mean to.

    Hi and welcome.

the first thing you need to do is read Dr. Atkins NEw Diet Revolution 2002 edition. Yes, it sounds like a big burden to read the book, but the book will tell you what you need to do, what you may eat, etc. There are too many misconceptions about how Atkins is done and I've seen alot of those ways, ie: the all-you-can-eat-meat-party, the only lettuce as a vegetable way, the eat anything you want as long as you don't go over 20 carbs daily way, etc.

So don't waste your time and possibly endanger your health by doing Atkins the way you read in some magazine a few years ago, or the way your co-worker's wife's sister is doing it. Read the book and learn how to do it safely and properly.

What I found very helpful through my weight loss was to make a copy of the Induction Acceptable Foods List and the Rules of Induction and keep a copy of that on the fridge at home, in my desk at the office and in my purse (in your case, maybe a briefcase, because I don't think you carry a purse around. ) Doing that made sure I didn't have to guess at what I could and couldn't eat. As I progressed through my Atkins and began adding more foods, I just added them to my list.

So go home, re-read the Induction chapter, take notes, etc. Do Atkins the proper way and you'll get results safely and healthfully.

Re: 1st Day and I'm already doing it wrong

It's good to hear that you have the book and you are reading it. Stopping for drinks and snacks at convenience stores will seriously impede your chances of success. Bring water and induction friendly snacks with you wherever you go. No need to buy water... Fill up your used water bottle with tap water (if it's potable where you are). Try to mix up the eggs for breakfast routine by putting delicious additives in it. Spinach, onions, garlic, and peppers are GREAT additives to an omlette.

I definitely found that caffeine and aspartame were causing me problems.

Hard boiled eggs can kill hunger quickly. It's good to have one in the fridge to pop in your mouth when you are feeling hungry & looking in the fridge for something to eat. Planning will save your diet from being derailed. Plan your meals for the day, and journal what you are eating using a tool like on fitday.com.

            >>I'm using my diet Dr Pepper bottle as a water bottle now.>>

            That's not really safe.

Might be ok for one day ... but throw it out at the end of the day.

            Buy a reusable bottle.

No, but I am going to have some spinach when I get home. I also saw a recipe for induction rolls to use in place of bread so I can start to make some sandwiches.

For the future... some spinach is not enough. You need a variety of Induction vegetables. Not giving your body proper nutrition can interfere with weight loss.

You should also spread your vegetables throughout the day, to avoid blood sugar spikes.

Your right, but now I know to plan a little better for tomorrow. Maybe I'll go to the list and premake some veggies for tomorrow. I am grateful for all of the help.

Don't worry about. First days are tricky. Just keep going and have things planned out for tomorrow. Failing to plan is planning to fail we often say around here. And it is often true.

Good for you that you are planning your meals And don't hesitate to keep looking over those foods on the List. Sometimes we get so stuck on one or two foods that we don't realize we have a wide variety available to us.
