  • Back on Atkins after an initial failed attempt

I initially started Atkins in December with mixed results due to not yet reading the book. I decided to halt the diet over Christmas and wait until I got the book (it took forever to get it) So I started back on the diet, I mean my new woe on January 17th. I drink at least a gallon of water a day and have incorporated a lot more exercise than I had initially. I walk an hour 3 times a week as well as 45 minutes of resistance training 3 times a week. That is only about 8 miles of walking a week, but I plan on increasing that. Anyway, this is my eighth week back on plan and I have lost 40 pounds as of Sunday. I weigh myself only once a week now as the everyday or every other day thing was messing with my mind.

The funny thing is my first two weeks back on I lost 17 pounds. According to the book I have a low metabolic resistance to weight loss with those numbers. The problem is that when I attempted to advance to OWL on the 4th week (I waited until the 4th week to go to OWL, but I went back to extended induction) I added 5 more grams of carbs with only the foods allowed and I actually gained a pound. So I am suspecting it is my medication that is preventing me from proceeding up the ladder.

Someone on here recommended I talk with my doctor about changing my medication. I did, but he said all of those types of medications have that possibility and Geodon has the least amount of side effects in that regard. I have tried to stop taking it by tapering off of it, but my symptoms were very problematic so stopping the medication isn't an option.

Just wanted to let y'all know I am back. For good this time

Many people notice a bump up when they move to OWL.

Once the body figures out what's going on, that bounce goes away.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the medication with only one week on OWL 1.

Welcome back to your ADBB family

Good to see you are incorporating exercise this time

Many of us experience a 'lull' in scales losses after a goodly amount the first couple of weeks, so it might just be your body sorting itself out. Just keep on keeping on and before too long I am sure you will see some movement in those numbers.

Have you taken measurements as well so you have some extra ways of judging your progress?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Congrats on your progress so far. As others have said, I wouldn't stress over the weight gain as you tried to move up. It happens quite often (so it seems by reading the threads). It almost seems as if the body has to hit a reset switch. After a week or so the losing starts again.

Welcome back and good luck to you!

I agree with Elizellen: what have your inches been doing?

"Gaining" a pound might be due to water retention, rather than from an accumulation of fat. And in your case, it might be water retention because an additional 5 net carbs of Induction veggies isn't high calorie nor is it over your CCLL (based upon your 2 week Induction losses.)

replied in your other post but just wanted to say woo hoo welcome back and great job on that exercise. with 140 pounds to go you could stay in extended induction for a while but you will need to constantly check your intake of vits and minerals to be sure youa re getting enough of them so you don't stop losing and injure your body.
