  • Week 2 of Induction, Loss Stalled

I've been stalled at 8/9 pounds for 5 days now... I think it may be the fact that I started having Atkins bars and shakes. I've noticed these are banned, (just barely), during Induction. Why are they banned, when they say for All Phases?

    >>I think it may be the fact that I started having Atkins bars and shakes.>>

    Then don't eat them.

Eat "whole, unprocessed" foods, like on the Induction food list.

They're not "banned" ... we just don't recommend them.

The Atkins Corporation sells the bars. DR ATKINS never advocated them. A lot of folks find that they stall their losses.

BY the way, a stall is not five days. If you go a month without losing either pounds or inches, then you have a stall.

Wait this out and give up the bars and shakes and see what happens. I expect you will start losing again.

As with all packaged food you need to look at the list of ingredients to decide which phase of Atkins they are suitable for.

As far as I know all the bars have ingredients not allowed on induction, so they would be 'legal' for whichever level/rung of OWL that allows all the ingredients.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

If you want them you can eat them. But from reading posts here you'll see they will more than likely stall you out and that is why we don't promote them. Just a guess but I'd say 9 out of every 10 stalled posts contain bars or shakes, maybe a higher # than that. Does that sound like something you want to be eating while trying to lose weight and get healthy?

My advice is to spend most of your shopping trip on the outside aisle of the grocery store. If it has an ingredient list and you have to have it, read the ingredients closely.

I stalled using those items. I thought, they are quick, easy, etc.. but the carb count is high and there are all those other ingredients in them. Plus, I think I just got used to eating them - too easy to have a bar and think of it as a dessert or candy so it didn't solve my problems.....

Now I grab a bell pepper (any color) and snack or something else.

Stop them for a few days and see what happens...

you are not stalled!!!!! Dr Atkins defines a stall as 4 whole weeks of no pounds lost nor iches lost.

It is very normal to have a slight scale weight loss hesitation after an initial loss on any weight loss plan. Atkinseers call that phase PISS. If you are measuring you will see you are still shedding body inches of body fat.

We all need to learn patients as we shed our excess body fat cause we didn't gain it in a day or a week and we will not lose it every day every week. You will have some weeks of loss some weeks of no chage and even a few weeks of a gain but the overall trend will be downward.

Now about those bars. When Dr Atkins was alive he had a whole page on his website about what to do if the bars stalled out a persons weight loss. eat 1/2 or give them up was the answer.

If you counted all the carbs in the bars other then fiber then you might still lose eating them if your carb level was high enough to include them, but net effective carb counts are accurate for a very very small number of folks trying to shed excess body fat.
hang in there and on day 15 check your pounds lost and decide based on chapter 12 and 13 of your DANDR 2002 if you will be moving to OWL or doing induction a bit longer.
