  • Sour cream--zero net carbs..is that right?

Might be a dumb question...but I have 4 tbs sour cream totaling 4 TOTAL carbs with my salad at lunch. The main atkins sight says 1 tbs sour cream is 0 NET carbs.

So, the new book I'm reading says to go by what the website says regarding sour cream. So that means I don't count these carbs at all, right? They are all net.

I just want to make sure that this is right.

    Thanks..

I just found the answer at the main site, so nevermind...here is what that answer is for doing it the new book way:

    1. In a typical day, you can have up to 4 ounces of most cheese (but not cottage cheese or ricotta), 10 black or 20 green olives, half a Haas avocado (the kind with a blackish pebbly skin), an ounce of sour cream or 2–3 tablespoons of cream, and up to 3 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice. The carbs in these foods must be counted in your 20 grams of Net Carbs.

    SO I ALREADY SCREWED UP!!!

Having 2 extra tablespoons of sour cream on one day is not a big mistake and probably won't affect you at all. Just stick to the 1-ounce limit until you reach the second rung of OWL.

And yes, you need to count the net carbs in sour cream. You need to count the net carbs in everything actually.

For accurate carb counts, it's best to check the USDA database:

      or FitDay:

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

The net carb values listed at Atkins.com are not all correct.
