  • Fear of measuring tape

Ok, so I know that you can lose inches without it showing on the scale, but the thought of measuring myself makes me sick. Any words of wisdom to get me over this? Maybe wait until after induction so I'm feeling better about myself?

    Thanks!

    Hi 4real-

    Welcome

A lot of us are unhappy with what our body looks like, especially at the start of a weight loss journey.

But...If you measure today, just think of how happy you will be when you see the results after the 1st two weeks! You can wait until after Induction, but then you will not get the full impact of how many inches you will have LOST from the very beginning. You do not have to share the numbers with anyone. That's between you and the tape measure.

I measured at the beginning and did not measure for a total of 4 weeks afterward.

Don't stress yourself too much, and enjoy the plan, it will be much easier that way...

Absolutely do it in the beginning. Revisit the tape at the end of induction and you may have a very nice surprise. It's also a good validation that things are working even when the scale may not move (which does happen).

I definitely regret not measuring during Induction. If nothing else, get some kite string or another inelastic string and use that to measure (if the actual numbers are the problem). That way, you can always find out the measurement number later!

          Re: Fear of measuring tape

Pagliacci has a good suggestion, just use a piece of string and mark it to show where it fits snugly around your hips/waist/bust/thighs/calves/ankles/upper arms etc, so later when you have measurements that make you feel good you can work out how many inches you have lost!!
Or use a separate piece of string for each body area so you can mark as each gets shorter!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I can vouch that measurements will keep you sane when there is no/little weight loss. I've gone 5 weeks with a net of 1.5lb lost but inches lost on waist, hips and bra band.

              Re: Fear of measuring tape

Is it that you don't want to see the numbers yourself? Would you feel comfortable having someone else measure you? They could do it and write them down, and you don't have to look at them unless you want too. But then you'll still have them available to compare to in the future.

I know for me I'm measuring ALL the body parts I can. I used to do just chest/hips/waist. But I lost inches before in my legs, arms, etc. So I'm going to keep track of all the little details. It all counts!
