  • Induction, want to make sure im securing my success.

Hello, I just started the Atkins diet and i want to make sure I'm doing it right..

    Here's my menu:

Breakfast- 3 eggs (1 carb each egg)
3 slices of bacon, non nitrate, uncured 0g carbs.
    1 oz cheese.
2 tbsp hot sauce, 0g carbs.

Lunch- 6 oz chicken no olive oil just baked in the oven.
1 cup of loosely packed lettuce.
    1 oz of cheese.
2 tbsp hot sauce, 0g carbs.

    Dinner- 12oz t bone steak.
1 cup of loosely packed lettuce.
    1 cup of broccoli
2 tbsp hot sauce, 0g carbs.
    1 oz of cheese

Ive been drinking about 128 oz (1 gal) of water per day.

Ive had a similar menu for my first 3 days, and I'm not feeling any different does it take longer or am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks for the help!

3 eggs (1 carb each egg)
Unless the eggs are the super extra gigantic kind, then an egg will not have 1 net carb. The numbers are rounded on the label.

You can find more accurate nutritional info in FitDay

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

    or in the USDA database:

    1 oz cheese
Are you counting the carbs for cheese?

2 tbsp hot sauce, 0g carbs
The carbs might be low, but they are not zero. Again, the label is rounding. All that zero means is that there are less than 0.5 grams of carbohydrate per serving. I imagine a serving is not 2 tbsp... so the carbs would add up.

How many net carbs are you consuming? How many of them come from vegetables?

What kind of lettuce are you having? There are vegetables more nutritious than lettuce... and your menu would, in general, provide better nutrition if you eat a larger variety of vegetables.

To me, your menu seems pretty low in fat.

Hello thank you for the response!

Yes i am counting the carbs for cheese, Ill cut the hot sauce out. I'm consuming around 15 carbs a day the carbs are coming from my broccoli and cheese and eggs. I don't think in the book it said how much carbs lettuce has. I dont know what you mean what kind of lettuce, the lettuce i buy is a head of lettuce.

So i should- Cut out the hot sauce, get a better variety of vegetables, add more fat? Should i be eating more fatty meats? Or more natural fats such as olive oil etc?

      Any more recommendations?

        >> Ill cut the hot sauce out.>>

        Why?

        >>I'm consuming around 15 carbs a day the carbs are coming from my broccoli and cheese.>>

That's a lot of broccoli! 1 cup of broccoli is not anywhere near 15 net carbs.

        >>the lettuce i buy is a head of lettuce.>>

        Is it iceberg, romaine, butter?

        What "variety" of lettuce.

Its iceberg lettuce, and the reason to cut out the hot sauce is because i dont know exactly how much carbs im getting from it.

The broccoli is only 4 carbs of my daily diet.

Thats a lot of hot sauce. Is it the bottled tobasco or salsa?

Look up hot sauce at the USDA site: www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

You can't just eliminate things because you don't know the carb count ... this is an opportunity to find out.

                >>The broccoli is only 4 carbs of my daily diet.>>

Is the broccoli cooked or raw?

1 cup of broccoli florets is about 1.6 net carbs.

And you said earlier that you were getting 15 carbs from broccoli and cheese.

Re: Induction, want to make sure im securing my success.

So in reality, im getting .6 carbs per egg im having 3 eggs in the morning, 1 gram of carbs per 1 oz of cheese, for a grand total of 2.8 carbs in the morning.

Lunch-chicken 1oz of cheese at 1 carb, 1 cup of lettuce at 2 carbs per cup. For a grand total of 5.8 carbs between breakfast and lunch.

Dinner 12 oz steak, 1 cup of lettuce at 2 carbs per cup, 1 cup of broccoli 4 carbs per cup.

So im way under the 20 carb allowance at 11.8 carbs a day.

Iceberg isn't that much ... and we count NET carbs.

                      >>1 cup of broccoli 4 carbs per cup.>>

Again ... is the broccoli cooked or raw? I doubt it has that many net carbs.

Sorry ... I missed the eggs.

But you know now that you're not consuming that many carbs, right?

The hot sauce is called CHOLULA hot sauce. Garlic flavor bottled.

The ingredients in hot sauce have carbs ... so it can't be 0 carbs.

Did you look up "hot sauce" at the link you were given?

The brocolli is microwaved, and on the back of the package it says 4g of carbs per cup with 1 sugar.
