  • Just Starting.. Advice Please :)

    Good evening all,

I've decided that it's time for me to make a few changes in my life--many of which deal with my health/weight.

    I am 26, 5'11'', 230. In college I fluctuated around 190-195.

I'm going to start the diet tomorrow, but I have a few quick questions (at least to make sure I'm starting off correctly).

I see the "no foods" rule and I have an understanding of the no carbs, no sugars. And I'm familiar with the "allowed list of foods".

I imagine I'm going to be starting off the morning with an egg or two. But my main concern is with lunch and dinner. Do I need to pay attention to any ratios while prepping my meals?

Or can I have a piece of chicken for lunch and a piece of fish for dinner? Do I NEED to be eating veggies or any low-sugar fruit, or can I get away with eating the chicken and fish? I just want to make sure I don't think I'm following rules by simply avoiding the "Not allowed" list, but not paying attention to any ratios or food groups I HAVE to follow.

My favorite food is chicken with Frank's (which has 0 carbs.) Is this safe by rules?

Also, does this mean ABSOLUTELY NO alcohol? Just making sure!

Thanks so much! I look forward to joining the rest of your successes!

    Hi,

What are you using for your source of info? Do you have the book? You mentioned a "no foods" list...Do you know what you are able to and supposed to eat? And yes, you need to eat veggies.

    ***No fruit on induction.

Here is a little reading for you...

This is where you start---“Read the Book”---This is the Version followed on the ADBB.

Yes check the rules. Those will tell you all you need. And if you are serious about this that is where you start.
So the basic rule is most of our 20 carb have to come from non starchy vegetables. We need to make sure we eat fats and otherwise eat till we are full and not more. We drink plenty of water. Did I say plenty of water.
Franks is good. Had some yesterday.

I've just started back up on this as well. Did this several years ago with luck, and since have tried a few others in between with no success. I'm worried that my body may be in too much limbo right now to actually lose on this diet, but have high hopes. Yesterday was just day one, so far so good... Good luck to you!!

          >>Do I need to pay attention to any ratios while prepping my meals?>>

          No.

          >>Frank's (which has 0 carbs.)>>

While the label says 0 carbs, it actually does have some. If you make friends with the USDA database, www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ you'll find that "sauce, ready-to-serve, pepper or hot" has 0.02 net carbs per 1/4 tsp. ... so if you use a lot, you're getting some carbs.

          >>does this mean ABSOLUTELY NO alcohol?>>

Yes. Until the appropriate rung of OWL.

          >>Do I NEED to be eating veggies or any low-sugar fruit, or can I get away with eating the chicken and fish?>>

Atkins is based on the right vegetables. No fruit on Induction ... not until the appropriate rung of OWL.

I bet reading the book will really help you understand!

remember atkins is a high fat moderate protein and low carb plan so your food choices when making your menus should reflect that. Atkins ideal induction ratios are 65% fats 30% proteins and 5% carbs but it is hard to hit them exactly so shoot for close.
Yes you should be having some of your veggies with your chicken and some fat too.
