Both of my pre school children are ill at the moment and so my head is pounding from the crying and constant needs for attention. This is weakening my resolve. All i want to do is bake a big chocolate cake and eat it.
Also am fed up fed up fed up with eggs. Think i may have had too many and now the smell is making me feel sick. Can anyone come up with some breakfast ideas?
Also when i made oopsie rolls they turned out great but all i could smell was eggs. Is there any way to disguise it!!
I know i did so well in my first week but i just feel like staying FAT!

Sorry to hear about the stress going on in your life right now, but consider this: if you were not eating the Atkins way, you'd have the added stress of feeling depressed about your weight which would only make things worse. Think of today as a test of your resolve. If this is the worst life can throw at you and you are able to hang in there, it's all smooth sailing from here!

Don't get me started on eggs. And the sad thing is, I really like them, but anything in excess gets old quick. If you must stick with eggs, you should go with a completely new way of making them. Perhaps egg salad, a quiche, or the egg-cream shake mentioned here. The latter tastes like an egg nog, and it's a quick breakfast that I love to make when I'm sick of eggs!

Also, as you progress on this WOE, you should begin to break out of the habit of eating traditional breakfast foods for breakfast. Skip the eggs altogether and try making a "dinner" meal instead. Eat some re-heated leftovers or cook up a hamburger.

Probably not while you are in the midst of your hangup with eggs in general, but I have made Oopsie rolls with added spices before. As a fan of garlic, I have added it to my rolls and the smell and taste has done a fine job of hiding the egginess. I also find that they key to eating oopsie rolls is to fill them with enough meat, cheese, veggies, or whatever to smother the egg flavor with the other ingredients.

Hang in there girl! The fact that you came to the board first is a sign you really want to make a change. Don't let a little stress throw you of course. Consider the way you felt before eating this way (lethargic, tight(er) clothing, addiction to certain foods, etc) and remind yourself of how much worse off you'd be if you had that to deal with too!

Instead of baking that chocolate cake, perhaps you could treat yourself to a mock danish. Yes, it uses EGG, but it's a sweet treat that might get you through the stress of your day. It might also help you through breakfast the next time you want to shove an egg up a chicken's rear end...

        Re: Feeling down and tempted...

If you find oppsies too 'eggie' for you maybe make a different kind of 'roll substitute' with less egg in it.

I have been making an adaptation of the 'muffin in a minute' to make 2 rolls (in a yorkshire pan or muffin-top mould) or spreading it out to make a sort of wrap or pizza base which can also be cut into 4 to make quarter-circle shapes to make sandwiches from.

        My ingredients are:
1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil or butter
        1 egg
1/4 cup of ground flax (linseed in UK)
        1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
        2 tablespoons cold water

Mix together and cook in the microwave for a couple of minutes or so till risen and firm to the touch.

If using the muffin-top mould I cook half the recipe at a time in the centre of the turntable to get even cooking.

You can use a tablespoon or so of flax on induction as a fibre supplement to guard against/cure constipation thus making small amounts of it 'legal' for induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

          Re: Feeling down and tempted...

I am not a big egg eater. Infact I can honestly say I dislike eggs. I have since I was a kid.

For breakfast I like to make bowls. If I am going to eat eggs I will make a breakfast bowl with green peppers, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, sausage and cheese. If I mix it all up together it isn't so bad. Another thing I like is stir fry for breakfast. It is quick to make if you use left over meat from the night before. Serve it over some rice califlower and it is good. Cheese omelets with crushed garlic are good. Almost tastes like cheesy garlic bread. If you notice the theme I use strong flavors to hide the taste of eggs. I can't eat them on their own but I know they are good for me.

For lunch I sometimes have a salad and chop up some boiled eggs and bury them in there. I for some reason like boiled egg in salad but can't eat one on it's own.

If you find you don't have time to make these things in the morning they work great microwaved in the morning. Sometimes when dinner is over I use the leftovers and add some veggies and cook them up and throw them in a plastic container and throw in the fridge. It takes just a minute to heat up in the morning. You can also cook up the egg and sausage bowls let everything cool them mix them up and throw in the freezer. Scambled eggs freeze well believe it or not. Just grab a bowl out of the freezer pop in the zapper for a minute and instant hot breakfast.

            Re: Feeling down and tempted...

Lizpolat, I hear you on the friends and family.

My mom went on Atkins about 12 years ago after learning she was hypoglycemic. She dropped 40 pounds, looked and felt great, and just fell off the wagon one day. I tried Atkins myself after my first child was born as she was doing so well, but it only lasted a few weeks as I got pregnant right away again.

When I told my mom that I'd started Atkins and was excited about how things were going, she'd commented that she should go back on because she felt so much better on it. I quickly pointed out some of the recipes I've seen to help success - like the oopsie rolls and the recipe I've seen here with the coconut oil to make chocolate.

She spoke through her lips, which were dangling a cigarette she was about to light and said, "Coconut oil is so bad for your heart."

Gah. And the chili cheese fries she had at lunch + cigarettes weren't?

The skepticism runs deep out there. I don't really want to have a debate at every holiday, family gathering, party or other social events. I'd like to avoid some of the skepticism I've seen in the last week so I've decided that instead of passing over that piece of birthday cake and saying, 'no thank you, I eat low carb' and spark a debate, I am just going to tell people I have a toothache.

Oh, and about motivation, I would:

            1. Try on clothes. I love that feeling when my jeans are a little loose.

            2. Look at the before/after photo section in this forum.

            3. Take the kids out on a walk or to the park. Wear them out for a nap so mom can get a little break!

            Good Luck

Well, the British eat kippers for breakfast. (They're not bad with hot sauce.) Or you could fry up some bacon.

But think outside the box. You don't have to eat traditional breakfast foods for breakfast. You can eat some meat, chicken or fish left over from the night before. Or a piece of cheese.

add 1-2 tablesppons of ground flaxseed to the yolk cream cheese mixture of your oppie rolls. stir vigorously for a minute and let it sit for 2-3 min before you ad to the whites. this will give you a more bread like texture and rid you of the egginess.

Also if you are adding sweetner try adding onion powder or garlic powder or even italian herbs to make your rolls more savory and less eggy tasting and smelling

I absolutely know how you feel about eggs! I have a name for it - the Nutri-grain Effect. While I was still getting fatter (years back), I would have a Nutri-grain for breakfast.... every. day. I bought one of those huge Sam's Club boxes so I could save money and be lazy. I thought to myself, "Man, I love these bars! I'll never get tired of them!" Then one day - WHAM. Seeing one made me want to barf. It's the first time I've gotten so sick of something, but it also isn't the last. Eggs definitely had the Nutri-grain Effect on me for a while, and I avoided quiches and hard-boiled eggs. Oddly enough, however, that eggshake previously mentioned is a-ok with me. Hope this helps!

A tip for making revolution rolls more 'breadlike' in texture that I got from not2late's blog is to cook it in a microwave, using only 1/3rd of the mixture at a time to make a large 'roll'.
I haven't tried it with oopsies but it should work.

I make a flax muffin similar to Lizellen's recipe. I will often add a SPlenda and some nutmeg and cinnamon and spread with cream cheese or peanut butter for a sweet morning muffin or add onion powder or dill or parsley or Mrs Dash ( or any and all of these) and use that as a savory muffin or sandwich bread.

                            Such great ideas here!

Back when I did Atkins in the late 90's I fell off the wagon because I stalled and I was so sick of meat, meat, meat. My oldest was a preschooler at the time. It is very hard to manage that and trying to lose weight, I hear ya! I never dieted again until last year when I reached 269. Sucks but I learned an invaluable lesson which was to be persistent. I get those same urges when I'm stressed. Maybe you could make a plan of exactly what to do when you feel that urge to just throw in the towel, like have a friend come over, mommy needs a time out and take a walk, bubble bath, read...anything. I think recognizing the signs of impending disaster (which you did, yay!) is the most important thing to preventing one. Even set up someone (similar to an AA sponsor!) that you can call when it's too much. I have called my husband at work and told him, I'm tired, cranky and I want to eat bad, please stop me! And he would give me good reasons why I shouldn't and encouragement.

You survived this one right? So now you KNOW you can do it next time the stress builds! Easy peasy.
Lost 100lbs+ since May '09 with a variety of methods, calorie counting, low fat, low carb (not Atkins strict), zig zagging, etc. Would switch up diet and exercise as I stalled to reboot loss. Prior to Atkins I was about 1000cals/day, exercising fairly hard and NOT losing...so here I am to finish the job.

Prior Atkins dieter with 50lb loss in late '90's

I love eggs also but as someone who doesnt usually eat breakfast, on atkins diet the thoughts of eggs every morning make me feel a bit queasy.. the first day I had 2 hard boiled eggs with some chopped onion, mayo and crisped up bacon... that was ok but the onion repeated on me all morning, so i have banned onion from brekkie now...
I did make a ham mushroom & cheese omelete yesterday and actually really enjoyed it!
Another idea maybe eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce?

And on the temptation side of it.. I have a big chocolate Easter egg in its box staring at me which I know I wont get to have next weekend now! Think I will need to hide it away or something!

Keep the good work going! It will be worth it in the end!
