  • Day 13

I am steadily plugging along. Ready for day 14. Then looking forward to being able to move on to OWL rung 1. I am going to add mashed potatoes for my extra veggie. Just kidding. I may buy some beets. I have never had them before. My wife says they are very good. I asked her if they were very good, why have we never had any in our house after 12 years of marriage. I guess I will find out if they are good or not soon enough.

My wife says I should have some half-N-half with my morning cofee when I get to rung 2, but I think I will explore other options. I like my coffee black so I feel like a tough guy.

They're not allowed on Induction. They're not allowed until much later on OWL.

    Cream has less carbs.

If you like it black, then why do you have to add cream?

I am glad you said that about beets, I don't know why I was thinking they were allowed early in OWL.

As far as the coffee, I don't put anything in it except a splenda pack(which I count) I meant explore other options in terms of how I would spend my dairy carbs in rung 2. I don't want to waste any in my coffee. It would make it taste funny. I like it black or with one splenda.

        Re: Day 13

OWL rung one is just 5 net grams more of the induction vegies.

you could eat the green tops off your beets but you can't eat the underground part until rung 8.

You don't have to add dairy carbs ... some people don't need more cheese/dairy quantity other than what they're already eating. However, your variety expands ... cottage cheese, ricotta, any of the fresh cheeses.

As to beets ... on OWL 1, you add 5 net carbs of INDUCTION vegetables.

Beet greens are on the list, but not the beets themselves.

I think I will just start to try some of the induction veggies I haven't tried yet. I will probably avoid the beets all together, I will have to decide when I get there. That rung is pretty far away for me.

As for the mashed potatoe part, you could make mashed califlower. It really isn't that bad. I add a little cream cheese to it and pepper.

                Re: Day 13

I like mashed celeriac (celery root) with plenty of butter and pepper!

When I had done rung 1 I intended to jump straight to rung 3 as I don't like milk or cottage cheese etc until someone mentioned yogurt!!

Fullfat greek yogurt can be eaten as it is as a 'cool-downer' with spicy curries, mixed with cucumber for a tangy sauce, or as a dessert either sweetened or not depending on your tastebuds. And of course with berries on rung 4 where we are supposed to take our extra carbs with fat to dampen down any sugar spikes!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
