  • New starter - Day 3

Hello everyone! I am now on day 3 of Atkins diet. I have been struggeling to loose the lbs after xmas so I have decided to give this a try.. I have done a diet called lipotrim before an as a result lost 3 stone, but this Atkins is a totally new set of rules to learn and I have so many questions about whats ok and that is not. I keep telling myself that all the bacon and eggs and cheese cant make me lose weight so I will be pleasantly surprised if it does! I keep finding different recipes with ingredients which are not on the 'OK' list so Im tryng to stick to the rules as much as I can.
Is there a site that lists all types of foods with their quantities and carb values?
Is Rocket ok for salad, as I have not seen it listed anywhere?
Are drinks like Dr Pepper Zero & Pepsi Max ok?
I have just under a stone I would like to shift... What kind of timescale roughly does Atkins start to loose lbs?
Thanks to anyone who can answer any of my questions!

    Hi Cat
Welcome to our international ADBB family

It is good to see another Brit join in the fun.

Rocket is fine to use on induction, it is called 'argula' in USA and is on the list. For any foods on the allowed list that you don't recognise you can google for a picture of it to see if we know it under another name.

Have you read the list of allowed beverages in your copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR)? Dr Atkins mentioned 'diet soda sweetened with sucralose' (which is one of the allowed sweeteners) as one of the allowed drinks we can have as well as our minimum plain water of about 2 litlres each day.

So you will need to check labels of all foods and drinks before deciding if all the ingredients are allowed. For diet drinks you are looking for any sweeteners to be on the 'acceptable' sweeteners list, and to have no caffeine in them.

No-one can tell how much weight you are likely to lose.

A 'normal' loss for someone who has not already been dieting would be between 5% and 10% of the amount you want to lose in the first 2 weeks. So as you have a bit under 14 pounds to shed, a loss of between 3/4 of a pound and 1 1/2 pounds would be 'normal'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Your reply was very helpful and I did not not that argula was rocket! You learn something new every day.

Been suffering some headaches and nausea and I seem to go very hot after I eat for some reason, but I have just weighed myself.. I was 8st 7lbs on Sunday and I am now 8st 3lbs! Although I was constipated until today, it does seem to be working! YAY

Well done on your incredible weight loss by the way! Great before n after pics!

Thank you for the kind compliment I am glad to see that you have not been silly enough to leave it as long as I did before getting a handle on this Way of Eating

cats fender, are you measuring the amounts of veggies...3 cups of loosely packed salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of other veggie which includes broccoli and peas I think. Do you have the book? Read the stickies on the forums, I'm going through them and they help a lot. Good luck!
Lost 100lbs+ since May '09 with a variety of methods, calorie counting, low fat, low carb (not Atkins strict), zig zagging, etc. Would switch up diet and exercise as I stalled to reboot loss. Prior to Atkins I was about 1000cals/day, exercising fairly hard and NOT losing...so here I am to finish the job.

In case you had not realised, a few other 'differently named in UK' veggies are
Eggplant in USA = Aubergine in UK
Zucchini in USA = Courgette in UK
Summer Squash in USA = Vegetable Marrow in UK
String/Wax Beans in USA = Green Beans in UK
