  • Day 5-Tummy Burn

    Hi all,

Day 5-- Food-wise, induction is going well. No Atkins flu, no temptations I can't walk away from so far. But I've got the worst tummy burn. Until I sat down and thought about it, I didn't even realize that was driving my 'craving' for dairy. Before Atkins, I had unthinkingly cooled it off with a gulp of milk or a spoonful of yogurt.

Now, no yogurt and no milk for another week and a half. I took a Tums last night and the night before, but the lovely pounds I had shed earlier in induction are returning. That's the only thing I did differently, so I suspect it could be the Tums. (Tums is sweetened with sucralose, so sugar shouldn't be the problem)

    Anyone have any advice?

Sounds like one of the foods you are eating is causing your heartburn. Try to identify what it is and cut that food out. Also don't eat late at night, keep your dinner early.

I think most people don't get heartburn on Atkins. I know DH was on RX meds for years but when he low carbs he doesn't have to take meds. I think part is the food and part is the fact he's not binge eating late at night.

Great advice. I looked back over my food diary to see if I can find the culprit. Would iceberg lettuce make sense for causing heartburn? I think I might see a correlation.

The best way to see if a food you suspect is giving you problems is doing so would be to drop it for a few days to see if things improve. Only 'tweak' one thing at a time so it doesn't get too confusing.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
