  • New Beginning

I have trying to start induction/atkins for the last couple days. Have had some setbacks, like meal at my parents and no lc option. Did the best I could but there was potatoes and carrots in the soup.

Anyway, so today I thought ok this is it, I started on a wednesday back almost 10 years ago, I will start on wed. now. Well I thought I was going well and when I tracked my carbs which I thought were not too high, they were. YIKES. I didn't remember eggs being high in carbs and adding up so fast. Live and learn. But my breakfast and lunch already added up to 24 net carbs..

Has anyone gotten/read the new atkins book?

Looking forward to finally losing all this excess poundage.

    Re: New Beginning

Hi Lil, I'm sure there are some here who have gotten and read the new Atkins book, I wanted to mention though that on ADBB we go by the 2002 edition. We find that the later books, written/edited after Dr. Atkins death, have changes which seem to have been made to increase sales of the Atkins company's products rather then for the health of the reader.

I'm curious about how many carbs you think are in eggs. Depending on the source I usually see one jumbo egg as having .5 to .7 carbs...not something I'd define as High Carb. It makes me think perhaps your source of data is wrong....or maybe we jsut have different definitions of high carb?

Grant - I have not gotten the new book either. I have the 2002 edition and have followed that in the past and will do that again.

No I do not believe that .5 or .7 is high carb. That is why I was hungry this morning had three in my scrambled eggs.. and I used fatsecret and the net carbs for that was 4.3 and 2 oz of cubed ham was 3.0 (which is about right).

I may need to find a different place to track. Last time I did Atkins back almost 10 years ago I did not track. I know that is key in the induction phase for sure.

I just came across it to use it to track food.

            Re: New Beginning

Some of the food tracking websites assume that if you log eating 3 scrambled eggs that you are adding milk and margarine to them (I know fitday does).

So instead log the eggs in the raw state then add any butter or cream you used to cook them in. This should give you a more accurate carb count.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks, that would make sense then why the carb count is higher.
