  • Need kind words on patience

    HI all,
I started off induction, a week ago, doing great. Although I had vowed to only check my weight once a week, I sneaked a peak a few days in and was very excited to see that I was 6 pounds. As my weight swings 4 so pounds a day anyway, without this WOE, I was cautiously optimistic.
Then I got a rare case of heartburn and took TUMS two days in a row. (It has sucralose so I thought it would be okay.)

I immediately gained back 2 pounds and they haven't moved at all since, even though I've been very clean w/ my eating. Going into week 2 of Induction, I am not so excited.

Got any encouragement you can share?

(BTW, I think it was the iceburg lettuce that gave me the heartburn. I've cut that out for spinach and other lettuces and haven't had it since. But it really sucks as carefully chosen and ordered salad was my dining-out strategy.)

Re: Need kind words on patience

stay the course. i had a little discouragement going into this week which is also my second week of induction. i am too heavy to weigh in on my scale at home so i purchased a new one with a 400 pound capacity. well i was still too heavy for that one and it wouldn't register. i guess 380 is a little too much for a 400 lb capacity scale. anyway i was a little discouraged but i really have been feeling good this past week. almost like i know i have lost weight regardless of what the scale says.

what i decided to do is just play it through. i will not get on the scale for 30 days. april 25th will be my next weigh in. i am going to follow the plan exactly the way you are supposed to and continue to keep training hard. as long as i am feeling good and doing what i am supposed to do i am confident the weight will come off.

i think trying to avoid the scale for a full 30 days is going to be harder than avoiding the carbs and sugars! that thing is just so tempting!

      One's weight will always fluctuate.

Whether or not it's related to the Tums, hard to say.

You might have been drinking less/more water ... eating less/more food.

Even if you do everything the exact same way day after day after day, the results you get will not be "the same".

      Weight loss is not linear.

Thanks CanUCMe and Atkinsgal08 for your responses. Wow, CanUCMe, you've got a lot more willpower than I do to avoid the scales for a full month. I think I would do better to keep off the scales, but I need more feedbach than that. Then, when it's not as positive as I would like.....

hang in there and keep working your atkins both the eating and the mandatory exercise part.

If the lettuce gave you "heartburn" it might hve been treated with a solution to stay green longer or been containinated witha bacteria that causes ulcers so be careful.

Since your immune system was activated with the heart burn you could easily be holding some fluid weight and it will flush itself ina few days.

Check your measurements so you can see your Atkins is working even when the scales bounce on you. Seeing inches of body fat being burned off can do wonders to overcome that got fatter scale reading.

I didn't even think about the lettuce being bad, but it's never bothered me before. But I do feel a bit puffier than usual. Thanks for the advice! I didn't take measurements to start but will do that, for sure.

Are you tracking what you eat in something like Fitday? That might help track down what foods bother your GERD and not. I found that helpful for me to rule out stallers and other foods my body doesn't like as much (ex. dairy).

As for the weight, I wouldn't worry about it. It could be your body retaining fluids due to the GERD or anything else.

Just keep doing the right things and the weight loss will happen. Make sure you get enough water and veggies in. Measuring is really good too for showing you progress when the scale doesn't but there will be time when neither will show loss and that's okay too.

                HI Bizzlekitty,
I've been tracking my food in an excel spreadsheet. Haven't heard of fitday. Will check them out. Water intake is good. Sodium may be up a bit. Thanks for the tip.
