I am in my first week of Atkins and I have read and wondered. I have seen some say to use the ketostix to tell and others say they unreliable. So how do you tell or know when and if you go into ketosis?
Ketostix are unreliable in the sense that they are not telling you whether or not you're doing Atkins correctly... and you can be in ketosis without changing their color.
You don't need to know when you get in ketosis. How would that help?
If you follow Induction correctly, you'll be in ketosis. It doesn't matter if you turn a stick pink or purple... or don't change its color at all.
Besides, just because you're in ketosis, it doesn't mean you're also losing weight.

Also, if you are unsure about your menu, you can post it... with quantities and net carbs for all foods... and we'll see if there's anything that needs to be tweaked.

Thank you this helped maybe this is why I have felt like I need to use mouth washer or brush my teeth all the time have a funny taste and feel like I may have bad breath...LOL.... As for loosing weight I can not tell at the moment I picked the wrong week to start this as Tom came at the same time so cant tell anything till next week.

hang in there and when TOM is gone you will be happy with your smaller body. Are you tracking inches too?
if not now would be a great time to get some measurements so you can see the inches of body fat being shed even when the scales say no change
If you do things right, you will be in ketosis. Yes, it's that easy.
If you're not sure if you're doing things right, post a menu for review
I'm one that the keto stix don't seem to work well and have never used them. I can tell by the appetite suppression, energy, and weight loss that its working.

306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down! Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!
Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal! Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you! bizzlekitty's journal
