  • newbie question

    Hi guys,

Well....I have done every diet out there, and I have failed. I feel like a total failure and I had promised myself I would have lost all my weight by summer. Clearly there is no way that can happen now, however I have a goal of losing at least 10 kilos by July. Is that do-able? How much approximately can I expect to lose on Atkins per week? I plan to stay on induction until i have lost about 20 kilos and I have 30 to lose overall. I did a form of Atkins when I was 16 (I am now 22) and it was the only thing that actually worked for me. I thought maybe I should try it a second time now. Hopefully it will work!

welcome to ADBB and back to atkins.

there is no time line for body fat loss scale numbers known to mankind.

All we can tell you is if you work your atkins both the eating and exercise parts you will be a healtheir smaller you by your deadline.

If you haven't gotten a copy of it buy yourself DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 EDITION known as DANDR around here and read it cover to cover. it will be the best money and time you ever invested in yourself.

      Hi
Welcome back to your ADBB family

AS 2big said, no-one can say how much weight you will lose before the summer, but if you start now you will definitely be smaller than if you do not start and continue with your current way of eating

Have you a copy of the book we follow here Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 (DANDR)? If so take another look through the rules for induction and get planning your menus!!

With 30 kilos (66 pounds) to lose I would not plan to stay on induction for too long.

Dr Atkins expected us to have climbed the OWL carbohydrate ladder by the time we have between 5-10 pounds (2.26 - 4.5 kgs) left to lose.

So if you want to do OWL thoroughly and test which foods affect you while discovering how many carbs you can eat while still losing you probably need to allow maybe 30 pounds (13 1/3 kgs) at least for OWL, which would mean moving to OWL when you have lost about 10-12 kgs, rather than the 20 you are considering.

Just my opinion, but we do see many members finding their losses slow if they stay on induction for too long.

          Good for you
Have you started induction yet or are you still in the planning & preparation stage?

If you need any advice on planned (or eaten) menus don't hesitate to post in the 'Review my Menu' forum for some input.

Yup! I am on my second day of induction and already in ketosis- i just checked I am a bit worried as I seem to be consuming slightly more cheese and cream so i think i need to cut down. It was so nice to have roast chicken and salad today without worrying about points, calories or other diet related things!

              What a good start

Keep an eye on your cheese intake and I am sure you will be fine.

                Re: newbie question

Hey, don't despair, it ain't summer yet!!! lose what you can and don't set yourself huge goals. I'm back on it for a second serious time as I know it works, specially if you use this site to give u support, meal inspiration through menus and learning from others. I lost 37lbs and maintained it for over a year and was so pleased with being able to wear UK size 12 clothes for the first time in many years and also feeling so well. Under pressure of friends and dh I moved onto "normal" eating as of last September and I have put back on a lot of what I lost despite watching what I ate.

This just proves to me that I need to eat this way in order to lose and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

So my advice is to go with the flow, we all lose at different rates. Don't just go by the scales but also monitor how you feel in yourself after a month compared to how you feel now. It's all about being inventive - we are not a community that lives on an unhealthy diet we live on natural unprocessed protein and fibre from our veg (and supplements if needed).

I wish you luck on your journey, all I can say is that it works and after a few days I promise that you won't be hungry or craving high carb foods
