  • Does it get easier?

I don't mean to be a big cry baby but day one for me was hard! All I thought of was food, food, food.
I have a feeling this carb withdrawl is gonna be rough for me.

Yes, it does get easier! I'm no expert (I'm on day 9 of induction) but I have noticed that I never really crave carbs anymore. Today, I was not even hungry once and I had to remind myself to eat. Keep up the good work!

        Hi Raina,
I just posted this for you in another thread in response to you.
LOL I am seeing you all over today!

        Raina,

Read the book, follow the plan well, think of it as a way of eating for life, not a quick fix diet, and you will find there is no more fighting. After you get accustomed to the plan, the food choices, your water, exercise, tracking your net carbs (try fitday.com)---it will become so easy and natural, you will forget how you ate in the past and you will find yourself very happy with the results.

Don't feel bad...two days ago I was pissed off and crying because it was so hard. I was always hungry, even after I ate, and was afraid it was always going to be that way.

Yes I agree withe evryone else. It does get easier. i also experienced carb withdrawals last week (im now on day 13) and for 2-3 days I felt sick and had terrible headaches. But they passed and now I dont feel hungry at all and I certainly am not craving carbs anymore.
You will notice a big difference in your appetite by the end of the first week , Im sure!

It gets harder for a few days and then it gets easier.

Hang in there. You don't want to have to go through day one ever again!

                    it gets SOO much easier

eventually it gets soo easy that you will never want to go off the diet. it will get so easy that going off the diet and back to eating junk carbs like pasta will feel impossible

                      Re: Does it get easier?

As the others said it does get easier

Try thinking about all the 'diet' food you ARE able to eat on this way of eating.
Lobster dripping with butter, steak with herb butter, fullfat mayonnaise with anything, brccolli in rich cheese sauce - in fat anything with rich cheese sauce , a hunk of ripe oozing brie, etc, etc.

You can make pizzas with 'induction-legal' ingredients using flax bread or flattened out ground meat (meatza) or a cream cheese/egg base (Bike Goddess pizza) or revolution roll base pizza or cauliflour or zucchini based bases.

Go here for several options on making vegetable based pizzas (scroll down to the bottom right side for many options to the cauliflower one.
The Lighter Side of Low-Carb: Low-carb pizza dough (cauliflower)

You can make caulirice to serve with curries or beanless chilli or to make fried rice recipes with.

Maybe you have another favourite carby dish you are missing? Just post in our 'recipe request' forum and someone will probably have already worked out a 'legal' substitute you can try out.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

It gets easier. I'm a starchy carb addict. So when I started my Atkins, I couldn't even walk near the potatoes in the supermarket because my stomach started gurgling, even looking at magazine pictures of pasta, potatoes and rice dishes made me hungry.

Then about 3 weeks into my Atkins, I was in a supermarket with a bakery. The bakery just put out their French bread loaves. The smell wafted over to me (in the seafood section of all places.) And guess what? Not a stomach gurgle, not a sudden craving for bread, nothing. In fact, I just thought, "oh bread." and that was it.

It does take a while, but it does get better. Do as Elizellen suggested and look at all the food you CAN eat now. Particularly if you've been a low fat dieter, you can now eat those full fat cheeses, butter and all those other forbidden foods. I was eating low fat for so long that I initially felt guilty eating a piece of Brie or a bit of full fat cream cheese. But that gets better over time too.

                          Re: Does it get easier?

                          Yes, it gets much easier.

                          Ketosis diminishes cravings and hunger.

In general the body just starts to become accustomed to and even crave foods you are feeding it. Now, because it's day 1, you crave your old foods.

In a couple of days those cravings should be much diminished!

                            Re: Does it get easier?

You shouldn't be physically hungry. Eat until you're satisfied, not stuffed. If you feel hungry again in an hour eat a hard boiled egg, some tuna salad, some cucumber slices or celery sticks with dressing or cream cheese, or whatever legal food appeals to you. If the hunger is psychological, it will go away after a few bites. Continue the process until your body gets adjusted to this new way of eating. Make sure you plan for these snacks if they contain limited foods like veggies or cheese. One thing you can do is cut up some celery and/or cucumber to measure 1 or 2 cups and put them in the fridge for use throughout the day. And have several eggs boiled up and ready.

Yes. I am nearing the end of induction.

I was in the kitchen for hours yesterday cooking non-legal Atkins food. We had three extra teens over for dinner. I made spaghetti sauce with sweet Italian sausage, made french bread from scratch and whipped up a double layer chocolate cake that I topped with homemade icing and sliced strawberries.

Not once did I have to stop myself from eating any of it. I am very pleased in knowing this because I love to bake. I had a satisfying lunch prior to all the cooking so I wasn't hungry.

Good Luck! The first few days are the most difficult. Don't stop now!
