  • 2 questions: liquid stevia and whey protein powder

    Okay,

Does anyone have experience with liquid stevia extract? The only "filler" is water.

    Also,

I know whey protein powder is not on the acceptable foods list. But whey protein is an ingredient in the Atkins shakes (I think, havne't double-checked this in a while), which are OK for Induction (I think, also haven't double-checked this in a while). This lead me to think that occasionally boosting my protein intake with whey protein powder (unsweetened, label says zero grams carb) in my coffee might not be a bad thing.

Sorry if these are stupid questions. If there are answers on this site, maybe you could point me towad them. I did a search, but came up with way too many hits to go through.

    Thanks for any input!! :yikes

I actually use the powdered stevia packets and I love them. I did consider using the liquid but just figured the packets were easier. I'm almost out of the packets so I may try the liquid this time. sorry i'm not much help on the liquid..but i will tell you i love the powder though it is very different tasting than any other sweetener. I almost think it's sweetens by a cooling sensation on your tongue, as weird as it sounds.

I'd say as far as protein shakes, unless you are currently body building you don't need to supplement your protein intake, you should be getting MORE than enough from your daily menu. I had actually struggled in OWL/maintenance keeping my protein amounts down. here is a really good thread on calculating how much protein you need: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=21410
Are you using www.fitday.com to track your carb/fat/protein intake? protein should be 35% of your daily intake.

Just to note though..i have used protein shakes int he past but as a meal replacement when I was on the road on a long drive etc and knew i may not have a good food choice. I figure they're still better than any bars with sugar alcohols.

Just like sadie said. There's no need to boost your protein. Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein one. Most people have no difficulties getting 35% of their daily calories from the protein they are eating.

I'm not in induction anymore (OWL) and I bought a great low carb cookbook by Dana Carpender. She has recipes that use vanilla whey protein powder mostly for desserts and baking. These are not induction recipes, though. So avoid it until you are further along.
