  • Sugar-Free Gum or breath mints???

I'm getting confused on whether or not you can have these or not.

Can someone please tell me if any are allowed if so, what brand??

I feel like I have horrible breath!!

You may be getting ketosis breath. It is usually part of ketosis. I would just clean and brush and maybe eat some parsley.

Sugar free is not Atkins friendly. The last thing you want to do is to make your body think it is constantly being fed sugars.

The books says - limits of three total servings of sweetener a day. So that is what we stick with.

It is great that you are on the fat burning stage.

Most sugar free is aspartame anyways, which Dr. Atkins tells us *may* stall some weight loss. Chew fresh mint maybe? My wife is always telling me that my breath is horrid. I brush lots. The bad breath is a good indicator that it's working!

1 stick of Orbit gum lasts a long long time...

2 Tic Tacs once and a while doesn't bother me either...

Aren't Tic Tacs made with sugar?

Yes but acording to their website info they have a version sweetened with Xylitol

Maybe count 0.5 carbs for each one?

            Edited to add
BTW if I recall correctly, xylitol is dangerous for dogs to eat, so keep anything containing that away from them (maybe for other pets too but you would need to search to check that).

I've just eaten a Murray Mint, offered to me by an evil work colleague, without thinking.

Anyone know the harm this will do, or the carbs I could count into my allowance?

Well I did find a mention that one murray mint has about 25 calories, so assuming there is not much in the way of fat or protein in them they must be virtually all sugar, As 1 carb=4 calories I would suggest one murray mint must have about 6 sugar carbs!!

BUT don't adjust your food intake and therefore eat less vegetable carbs to make up for it Just accept you made a boo-boo and move on eating to plan.

It might trigger cravings for more sweet stuff, so be prepared to resist them by making sure you have ample 'legal' highfat snacks available over the next day or so.

Try just keep a travel sized bottle of mouth wash with you. I dont chew gum anyway because the sugar alcohols in them give me the worst gas ever!

Remember that each serving of gum or Tic Tac (most likely one piece) counts as a serving of sweetener, and the limit is 3 servings per day.

Also, chewing gum isn't an attractive look ... so keep that in mind, too.
