  • I'm sooo thirsty

Ok, I drink a ton of water daily, I'm 273.1 this AM and consumed 64oz of water before 8:30 this morning. I have since consumed another 64 ounces but am so thirsty! I don't remember having this problem before, the book states that this diet has a diuretic effect, but I am already consuming a lot of water (and have been for quite some time now) so I know I'm not dehydrated...how much water is too much?

Too much water is when you drink a lot at one time instead of taking it throughout the day.

I think I read that the human body can process up to 15 litres a day if taken gradually.

Now and again we read of people even dying of 'water intoxication' but usually these are college kids on a stupid dare drinking a gallon in a few minutes, or athletes getting dehydrated then drinking too much plain at once without adding any replacing minerals that they might have sweated out.

Here is an interesting article which seems 'scientific' rather than 'alarmist'
    Water Intoxication & Hyponatremia
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Hi,

Do you use a lot of salt? Or eat a lot of salty foods?

Did this occur before you were on the Atkins plan as well?

pick "wet foods" as your veggies should help some with the thirst issues. Your body will eventually alter your chemistry some to slow the fluid loss. Check your veggie choices too as some of the induction veggies are natural diuretics and stay away from the whooshie pie recipe as that is too.

          Re: I'm sooo thirsty

Good morning all and thank you for the replies.

Elizellen - thank you for the link, I will be sure to read that today. I don't think I'm even close to drinking that much water (and I do spread it out over the course of the morning) I don't drink liquids in the late afternoon because I want the majority of it out of my body before bedtime.

mission to lose - actually I eat no salty foods, I don't even use salt to flavor foods. This has only been in the past two or three days, because I know a littel about what Elizellen stated, I did not want to go overboard, but I'm hoping if I am thirsty and drink the water it is because my body needs it and I won't harm myself, but I'm really thirsty. This has occured only this time around on Atkins, nothing else has changed in my life, no new meds, nothing, so I think it has to be this woe. Thank you for the comment, I will look closer at my intake and make sure there is no hidden salt there.

2big4mysize - I've never heard of whoosie pie...now I have to go and find out what it is...but yes, I will stay away from it and look closer at my intake.

          thanks,

            Re: I'm sooo thirsty

            Hi Mutantmom,
I have those days, too, where I just stay thirsty. a friend suggested a blood sugar check since this is a sign of diabetes (I haven't done the check as the thirst is only for a day, never longer.) Instead, I think I've correlated it to my allergies. When my sinuses start getting stuffy, especially with drainage, I start being thirsty, which is the natural order of things, sinus-wise.
