  • question....

I know this is probably in the book... but it hasn't arrived in my mailbox yet.

What percentage of fat/protien/carbs should your diet consist of?

Today, I've had 68% fat, 26% protein and 6% carbs. I've had a total of 1401 calories and burned 406 calories from exercise.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: question....

    You're doing good.

No percentages are mentioned in the book.

You might need more calories... but I don't know if today was a typical day for you or if you usually eat more.

If you want to post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs, we could take a look.

      Re: question....

Looking at your menu I think you are still a bit low on veggies. Remember that most of your carbs should come from vegetables. It looked to me like less than 10 net carbs from veggies. So you are getting more carbs from cream, cheese and dressings than from veggies and that is not how we should eat on induction.

Keep working on it. You are close.

        Not enough most likely.

A good "rule of thumb" is to have 10-12 times your current weight in calories.

How many net carbs did you have in total, and how many were from Induction vegetables?

          Here is my fitday journal.

          http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJournals.html?Owner=jebjow2

If you look back over the past couple days you will note on day one I only had 871 calories, which I didn't realize until right before I went to bed. I had 22.2 carbs with 5.8 fiber = 16.4 net carbs (right ?!?) Only 14 grams of carbs from veggies. Then on day 2 (yesterday) I had 1,570 calories with 22 carbs and 3 fiber = 19 net carbs. Only 8.2 of those were from veggies. Today, I had 1,401 calories, 21.5 carbs with 3.8 fiber = 17.7 net carbs. Only 6.7 were from veggies.

I'm trying to add in veggies but there's not many I like from the list. I guess I need to just try them and maybe find some ways to prepare them that suit my taste.
          Any ideas?

I do like salad... had one of those today for lunch.
I'm a snacker.... so grabbing pepperoni is easy, etc.
any suggestions on a quick snack?

Thanks again for all your info. You people are wonderful!

            Re: question....

Half and half isn't allowed on Induction ... use heavy cream instead. And ... the limit is 2-3 Tbs. per day.

Did you make the Jalepeno ranch dip or was it from a store?

Did you start with raw onions? If so, enter them in Fitday in the raw state. Also ... how do you calculate one tenth of a cup?

Steak sauce ... is it store bought? If so, it's not likely to be Atkins friendly ... read the list of ingredients.

1400 calories is too low ... aiming for 10-12 times your current body weight in calories is probably better.

Pepperoni is very processed ... filled with sodium and sugar. I wouldn't have it very often.

How much water did you have?

              Re: question....

I just read a minute ago that half and half wasn't allowed on induction! I thought I read somewhere it was? But... I do have heavy whipping cream, I'll try that tomorrow.

The jalepeno dip is store bought.... it's actually jalepeno ranch dressing but I entered it as dip because that's how i used it (lol). It's 2g or carbs... 2g of sugar !

The steak sauce is actually A1 steak sauce. It too has sugar in the ingrediants. !!! I'm floored here.

I guess I've been so consumed by making sure the carbs are low that I'm over looking the specific ingredients. NO sugar is allowed AT ALL... correct? I need to get better at that.

I did start with raw onions. The reason I put 0.1 cups is b/c they didn't have an option for 2 half slices. This was actually left overs from the night before. There was about 2 half slices of onion and 2 small slices of tomatoes. I wanted to be sure to count it, just wasn't sure how. Same goes for the mozzarella cheese. I just had a sprinkle of it... maybe 2 tablespoons, but there wasn't an option for that. Maybe I should just weigh items like that and record them in oz. Yeah! That's what I'll do.

According to my weight, I should be having 1940-2328 calories a day ! Wow! Are all those really needed? Wouldn't I start burning fat more quickly if I didn't have so many calories?

I'm drinking more than enough water... at least 100 oz a day... of pure, plain water. That's enough isn't it?

                >>Wouldn't I start burning fat more quickly if I didn't have so many calories? >>

No. You're more likely to put yourself in famine mode by not eating enough.

                >>hey didn't have an option for 2 half slices.>>

                Isn't that 1 slice?

Weighing food is the most accurate.

                >> According to my weight, I should be having 1940-2328 calories a day ! Wow! Are all those really needed? >>

I've seen it work for more people than not.

                >> I guess I've been so consumed by making sure the carbs are low that I'm over looking the specific ingredients. >>

The list of ingredients is the most important thing on the label.

If sugar is one of the first 4 ingredients ... put it back.

If sugar is one of the other ingredients, then if the net carb count is 2 or less per serving, the item MIGHT be tolerated by you. Some people do strive for 0 sugar, since they can't tolerate it.

This is all part of the learning curve with Atkins.

100 ounces of water is most likely fine ... more doesn't generally hurt.

                  Re: question....

LOL... I guess two halves do make a whole! Oh my... how my mind works. but in all reality, they weren't even a "normal" slice... they were two little pieces from the inside of the onion.

Sugar... first four ingredients... it's a no. Okay, got it.

Is that because people will crave more sugar? Or because of the way it'll quickly release insulin?

                    Re: question....

Atkins is about reducing/eliminating sugar. Even trace amounts can trigger cravings for some and even trace amounts can affect a person's insulin. Reading the first 10 chapters should be of great help to you in understanding the science behind this "way of eating",
