  • Confused on cup measure of veggies/salads

I was reading through the FAQ's and came across this thread:

I have not been measuring by the cup either. But i have been following what each vegetables cup weighs, i've been going off DANDR where it states that for salad vegetables i can have 230-340g per day and 140-200g per day if salad does not exceed 230g.

So basically i'm now confused on what i'm to follow, because for instance if i followed the thread above and has iceberg lettuce at 55g as a cup measure and i had 200g of lettuce during the day instead, i wd be within the limits according to DANDR, but according to that measurement i would be having appx 4 cups of salad vegetables. Does this make sense? I'm sorry if i've confused others too! But any help would be appreciated. I hope i'm not doing it wrong.

Part of the problem is that someone tried to take the "cup" measurements in the US book (which is a measurement of volume) and translate it to UK weight measurements ... and didn't always do such a great job. It's confusing enough in American!

The USDA website (www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/) has 1 cup of chopped iceberg lettuce at 57 grams ... so your 55 grams isn't too far off.

I hope you've been having more Induction vegetables than just lettuce.

You should be getting MOST of your daily net carbs from Induction vegetables ... and iceberg lettuce doesn't have many ... nor does it have much nutritional punch.

yep amercian cups are 8 ounces and ounces can be converted to grams BUT american meausrements have 2 types of ounces weight which could be directly converted and volume ounce s which do not convert to grams but to mililiters. Cups are a volume measure not a weight measure. each veggie will have a different weight in grams for a cupful

Yes, as long as you are going off the weight per cup information for each different veg you choose, rather than the gram numbers in the UK edition of DANDR, which overestimate the amount allowed for the lighter vegetables and I assume underestimate for the heavier ones.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
