  • Have new book but want to do DANDR Induction

I am confused about induction veggies - in the new book it tells you to weigh everything and then researching on the net people talk about having 3 cups of veggies. Which one do I do? If you do use the cup measures, how do you know how much net carbs that is? Can you just mix them all up to make up the cup measure or do you have to do everything separate?

Thanks for your help. I want to do the DANDR induction, not the new book I have.

Dandr - does talk about cups. Atkins probably wanted people to have it as simple as possible in induction and in the US they are into cups. Also it was not that easy to find carb counts of foods when his books started to come out.

So if you go the cup route - you can use a database like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal to find out roughly how much carbs in in a cup of this or a cup of that.

Also if you follow Dandr - Atkins has a list of veggies you can eat more of (2 cups) and one you should eat less of (1 cup).
I would certainly mix up say onions and tomatoes (both from the 1 cup list) to measure a cup. Or mix up peppers and mushrooms from teh 2 cup list to measure those in volume.

Will you be able to find DANDR?

Re: Have new book but want to do DANDR Induction

I don't mind weighing my vegies if that is more accurate. The only problem I am having is in my (new) book it says that you can weigh the salad vegies raw but the other vegies have to be weighed cooked which I think is a bit hard if you have to keep all the vegies separate to weigh them before you can put them together.

Could you please tell me what the weights are for the cooked vegies so I can weigh them raw before cooking? I am interested in doing this the DANDR way but want to get it right. How do you weigh your vegies for the day?

        Thanks for your help again!

          >>I want to do the DANDR induction, not the new book I have.>>

Then buy a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)!

That will vary from time to time.

          Use a food scale.

I do everything raw and go by carb count on fitday. So do that.
I don't think the new book means that you have to do it a certain way - they just give the volume size for certain veggies that people usually cook so that people can easily see how much carb they get if they do NOT weigh.

If you weigh go by raw weight. And look up carb count and go from there.

I think as far as veggies are concerned weighing veggies is OK for you to do and still do DANDR.

Thanks for your advice. I went on and signed up for fitday.com but when I put in weights for vegies it came up with carbs - but I thought you had to count net carbs. Do you take away the fibre yourself on this program?

Yes. In FitDay, you need to subtract the fiber yourself.

You can see the fiber total in the Calories Eaten Today graph.

If you want to see an individual food, you can just click on it and open the "nutritional label".
