  • Taking Atkins to work, what should I eat?

So am going to be starting the 14 day induction soon, been on it before but then I wasn't working and now I have set breaks for lunch at work and I am looking for advice.

    Wake up at
6:00 am - Should I have breakfast? Or wait for my first work break at 10:30am?

10:30am - First work break, many class this as breakfast, so if am having breakfast at home or even now, what should I eat? breakfast or snack?

1:30pm - Second and last break of the day, I would call this lunch. Any good food ideas for my lunch would be appreciated, I could eat warm food but would less prefer the hassle and maybe eat cold food.

5:30pm - I am at home from work, should I now have my last meal of the day evening dinner as at this time I am for sure starving, or do I have a small snack and maybe exercise and have the dinner later.

Now for convenience I have been looking at Atkin's related food products but as a post I saw earlier they do seem to contain ingredients which are banned from the 14day induction. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Welcome to our ADBB family
Good for you for planning in advance what to take for meals

I would have breakfast. What sort of foods from the allowed list do you like? Will you have time to cook something or will it be simpler to prepare something the night before and just heat it up? I often make crustless quiche so I can easily grab a slice or two and heat them and eat with maybe a few cherry tomatoes - you might prefer bacon and eggs
10:30am - First work break, many class this as breakfast, so if am having breakfast at home or even now, what should I eat? breakfast or snack?
Assuming you have eaten breakfast maybe have a medium sized snack here. I would maybe bring some celery sticks and dip or pate, or a couple of hard boiled eggs.
1:30pm - Second and last break of the day, I would call this lunch. Any good food ideas for my lunch would be appreciated, I could eat warm food but would less prefer the hassle and maybe eat cold food.
Anything from the allowed list - some meat and some vegetables or salad. Or bring in some form of stew to heat up. Another option is to bring slices of meat and cheese and make rollups.
5:30pm - I am at home from work, should I now have my last meal of the day evening dinner as at this time I am for sure starving, or do I have a small snack and maybe exercise and have the dinner later.
This would be a bit early for me to have a main meal especially if I was intending to get some exercise in. Maybe another snack similar to what I suggested at 10:30 am?

Then have dinner after you have exercised - meat and some veg from your total 3 cups allowance.
Now for convenience I have been looking at Atkin's related food products but as a post I saw earlier they do seem to contain ingredients which are banned from the 14day induction.
Good label-reading - they DO contain non-induction ingredients so are better left till you are on the level/rung of OWL that does allow the ingredients.
Anyway - a chocolate bar is a chocolate bar, not a meal!! Better to eat non-processed foods for your meals and snacks in my opinion.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Taking Atkins to work, what should I eat?

I agree with Elizellen (as usual). Eating breakfast starts you metabolism...start it earlier than later (6 rather than 10). I often bring dinner leftovers for lunch - it is half the cooking/food prep It is a good idea to spread your veggies/carbs throughout the day so that you don't get blood sugar spikes from eating them all at once. Eat your veggies/carbs with fat or protein so that you digest them more slowly, again, avoiding blood sugar spikes.
One rule that a lot of people miss is that at least 1/2 your daily carbs should come from vegetables...just thought I'd throw that in there in case you missed it
I personally only snack if I am hungry or I've gone 6 hours without eating...but I have a long standing habit of eating when not hungry - or eating so that I don't get hungry (like that would be HORRIBLE!)...I have really bought in to Dr. Atkins wise words: eat when hungry - stop eating when no longer hungry. With set meal times, this may be a bit more difficult until you figure out how much you need to eat at each meal to keep you satisfied until the next one
I can't exercise on a full stomach - I would eat a small snack, exercise, then eat dinner. I often exercise while dinner is in the oven

Re: Taking Atkins to work, what should I eat?

I'll answer your question about what to bring for work.

I bring leftovers. I've found that if I make my midday meal a "meal", I remain satisfied longer than if I make it a meal that consists of light food like salads. So I bring a portion of meat, and a cooked veg, or a hearty soup made with meat and veg. I heat it up in the microwave and sit down and eat it as leisurely as I possibly can.

Definitely eat breakfast before you leave for work.

For lunch, I almost always take my tuna slaw to work...

1 can tuna, 3 Tbls of mayo, 1.5 cups (100g) of chopped cabbage, 1T Frank's hot sauce.
