My husband has never been on Atkins and he and I are going to start together tomorrow. Going to the store after work tonight and hopefully be able to make a few things for him for lunch tomorrow. I asked him to try it for two weeks and he said he would. All he has is his belly to lose, but I would say maybe 25 pounds total. I hope he can do it as well as hoping that I can too. I have tried many times to do Atkins and have had positive and negative results...the negative is mostly getting bored with eating the same foods but I hope this time around will be different. If things go well we will be starting at Snap Fitness as well which is 1/4 mile down the road from our house. Wish us luck and I am happy to back with this wonderful group of people.

Good luck. DH and I are on this together too. So far so good, it helps to have someone that is going through the same things you are. Just make sure in the end you are doing this for you and no matter what he does, stays on or goes off, that he knows you are sticking to it and would appreciate his support.

Re: Husband and I are starting tomorrow 4/5
Welcome
I hope it goes well too. And it is great you have your husband there with you.
Look into recipes this time. It takes a bit to get used to real food and appreciate good clean stuff.
They did some research with rats recently where they fed rats junk food which they loved a lot but after a while the usual fix was not enough and the rats wanted to have more junk to get to that level of satisfaction.
When healthy rat food were fed to them the rats preferred to starve
I thought that was interesting because it shows us that food can be a bit like drug. And show us how difficult it can be to change our habits around them.
But keep working on it:

How did it go today?
As far as the boredom with food goes, I understand where you're coming from, but I have to say that I got bored with the same ol high carb foods too. lol Check out the links that Liv gave you and I also highly recommend Dana Carpender's recipe books. Everything that I have made from them has been fabulous. They are "real" foods and not all gourmet and stuff. lol

Re: Husband and I are starting tomorrow 4/5
Hi Stacy
Welcome back to your ADBB family
It is great that you have an Atkins buddy in the family this time around
Is he interested in learning about how and why Atkins works or are you going to have to do all the organising for him?
For the times when he will need to decide for himself what to choose to eat maybe suggest he prints out and carries with him the list of allowed foods - there is a wallet sized one on this forum for ease of use.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: Husband and I are starting tomorrow 4/5
Well Sunday night I got everything ready for my husbands lunch for Monday. I put together a grilled chicken salad, cheese chunks, peanut butter and celery and 3 hard boiled eggs. I even got up at 5 am to make sure he had something for breakfast...scrambled eggs..(he is not the greatest breakfast cook...lol). So when he came home I asked him how is lunch and snacks were. He actually said he thought I packed too much for him. Well Monday night I started my 3 nights of night shift work (12 hour swing shift worker here...) so he is going to kinda be on his own..so I hope he does well. He doesn't know really anything about Atkins as of yet so I am trying to guide him on his journey and at the same time keep my sanity, the house and the kids all in order. I did call him to check to see what he ended up having for dinner ...steak and broccoli and water...he is trying
As for me...I had some ham, and chicken, cheese, green beans, peanut butter and celery. Not the best start but it will get better when I get back to days...Swing shift and Atkins sometimes do not play together well with me...but I am not going to let it beat me this time....my husband said last night...NO CHEATING no matter what....
This Saturday will be our 1 year anniversay so I am hoping we can find a nice place to eat that we can still have a very nice dinner without cheating. These are the restaurants that I have around me...if anyone has any suggestinos as to what might be good there please advise...I really dont want to go out of town. We have an Applebee's, Red Lobster and a Bob Evans.
Ok talk to you guys soon... Day two has begun.Stacy, 35, 5'8"

Re: Husband and I are starting tomorrow 4/5
Red Lobster is pretty easy to do low carb. Ask for no biscuits and use their option of having broccoli with your order. The garlic shrimp, lobster and crab legs are really yummy and legal. Have dressing on the side with your salad and order ranch. Red Lobster have their nutritional information on line so you can pre check things there. I don't know about the other restaurants because we do not have them here.
And peanut butter is evil
Hope you have a good day.

Re: Husband and I are starting tomorrow 4/5
Thanks for the peanut butter and celery...the only reason I had that is when I started this program the first time I ordered the program with the video and little red book about the 14 day induction. In it it had peanut butter and celery as a snack.
My husband will be so happy about red lobster...that is his favorite place to eat.Stacy, 35, 5'8"
