  • Here are my mini goals...

Hello All! I just felt it appropriate to voice some of my goals and maybe you can tell me if my timeline is to crunched?

Started induction April 16, 2005 290 lbs pant size, snug 22

    June 2005 270lbs pant size 20

August 2005 240 lbs pant size about an 18

    December 2005 BELOW 200

Are those too unreasonable, I follow induction, drink my water, and excercise daily???

    Thanks Guys!!!

It's hard to tell it really depends on your body. As far as the pant sizes go those get tricky. I started out at a 18 and lost 30 pounds before I went down a size to a 16. Now I am down 37 more and wear a 9/10. I skipped the 12's completely. Not sure how that happened. So remember when you exercise and gain muscle the scale might go up but your pant size will go down. So I now make my goals more toward my pant size I want to be. I've seen some people say they lose a size every 10 pounds. Don't get discouraged about the scale the key is to use your tape measure.

from some of the examples I read in Dr. Atkins book, it's definitely possible, but you need to be prepared for the possibility that your body just isn't going to let go of the fat that easily. Don't set your hopes so high that you become discouraged and give up when they aren't met. I don't think setting goals like this are going to be very constructive for you. If you follow the diet faithfully and you exercise, your body will do what it is supposed to. Who knows? Maybe you will lose faster than your goals say! I guess what I'm saying is that when you set a goal, there should be something more you can push for or work for to get there. With Atkins, you're either on or off. If you get within a week of your first goal, and you're just not losing as fast as you wanted, there's not much you'll be able to do. With regular diets, you could always starve yourself more, but with Atkins, your body is just going to go at it's own pace no matter what you do. Wonderfully, though, it's usually a lot faster than the slow process of calorie-counting.

My suggestion... set certain weight goals and reward yourself at certain milestones (not with food). Like at 250- buy a new outfit, At 200- take a vacation or mini-vacation. I just wouldn't put timelines on things.
I'm 26 years old, and I lost weight on this plan in 2005. I'm getting married in August and thought this would be the way to go after making little progress on other diets. I've got 20 lbs to lose for the big day!

        Holly's weight loss goals

        Hello everyone,

My name is Shirley, I'm 23 yr. old female from DC and Holly's best friend.
I joined the site to read her posts and be able to reply to her on here and let her know that I support her and lover her. We have been friends for over 8 yrs. and Holly is one of those women that follows through on her goals. I admire that she is following atkins and changing her lifestyle and not just her but her husband as well. I think that a strong support system is essential to losing weight and for so many aspects of life. So this is just a little message to let her know that I care for her and know that she will achieve her target weight goal but not just that but also keep her new healthy life and enjoy many healthy years into the future where one day maybe we will be old ladies getting the early bird special at the IHOP but atkins approved ofcourse Love ya sweety! -Shirley

I would agree that setting those kind of time-oriented goals might be counterproductive and set you up for being disappointed. :hug
You don't know how fast your body will lose weight so really have no idea if they are achievable at present.
Why not set your first goal as 'doing a clean 2 week indution' and see how it goes?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

First, anything is possible if you stick to it. Second, once you start seeing and feeling the weight come off you wont care when you hit your mini goals as long as it's coming off. I was the same way...I thought I would lose it all within 6 months but now I know I wont..you have stalls here and there and before you know it time has flown by. Just make the most of each day and you'll get there in no time!

            Good luck :hug

I look at it this way - it took YEARS for me to put all that extra fat on my body and it's not going to come off overnight. So everytime I see my scales go down and my clothes feel looser and my inchtape says there's less of me that's great in itself. It's liable to take me well into next year to lose the extra poundage I'm carrying around because I damned well want to KEEP IT OFF for good.

I've been obese for over twenty years now and cannot remember what it's like not to be lugging all this extra weight around - but every day is a day to make those chances happen for me.
