  • Give up?

    Hello,
Yes, I am new to this forum as well as the Atkins Diet itself. I got cracking on my induction phase on Monday, and it had gone downhill ever since.

I have tried millions of diets, which sometimes provided me with short-term weigh loss (mostly water loss) and I though it'd be different with Atkins; it's not, though. I have already gone overboard with cheese and had not really eaten enough, which also meant I'm verrrrry hungry at the moment. I just don't know what to eat-- I am not exactly a meat-lover nor a vegetable-admirer. I'm addicted to apples :/

Although, after reading a few chapters of DANDR, reuniting with my old carbohydrate-rich ways doesn't sound too appealing, either. I'm stuck. I don't know what and whether I should eat at all...

    HELP, please.

What you should eat is in Chapter 11 of your DANDR (2002).

Hey there-- cheer up! You will find a way to make this work for you.

On apples--- I adore them, too. Would often eat 4-5 a day! I haven't had an apple now in over a month, and I have survived. I only miss them when I see them in the grocery store. You can get over your apple love affair if I can.

            Re: Give up?

what you need to do is go back and re-read the induction chapter in dandr. don't just skim through it either. go back and study it. re-read paragraphs as many times as you have to in order to make sure you really grasp what he is saying. really study the 12 rules of induction and make sure you you fully understand them.

i was in the same boat as you. tried all kinds of diets and even started off wrong with atkins. but once i went back and really understood what i was reading everything started to turn around. there has to be some sort of meat you like. you have to find things that you enjoy even if they seem unconventional compared to the diets you were used to in the past. it took me a couple of days to really feel comfortable taking in so much fat. as far as veggies go i am not a big fan either. but you know what eating 3 cups of veggies a day is a small price to pay for the rewards of this program. it's really not hard to incorporate them either. make yourself an omelette for breakfast and throw a cup of whatever in there... mushrooms, tomato, onion, peppers, broccoli. for lunch today i have some sliced steak with peppers and onions made in a little olive oil. tonight for dinner im doing some chicken wings and celery.

whatever you do don't give up. once you get yourself rolling you are going to start to feel great. give yourself a solid week of following the plan to the letter, just as it is laid out in dandr. 1 week of your life. even if you are a little uncomfortable at first just buckle down and get through 7 full days. i guarantee you are going to feel so good you are not going to want to stop.

This is a very hard WOE to start on a whim. You really need to know what you are doing or you will only get discouraged. Sit down and really learn the plan, read the links here and print out any lists you need, especially the sugar name one. Get a strong grasp on what the plan is all about and what foods you can have. Then you can tackle your weight issues and see the success you are hoping for without all the stress of messing up.

It's not the circumstances that need to change, but you -- your attitude and your behavior.

I have already gone overboard with cheese and had not really eaten enough
That, to me, says that you haven't been planning. Cheese is an easy-to-grab snack that many people eat mindlessly... open the fridge... "what can I have?... oh, I have nothing cooked... I don't feel like cooking now... let's have some cheese."

Plan your menus a few days in advance, then follow the plan. If a food is not on your menu for the day, or not in the amount you would like to it, then don't eat have it.

Atkins implies a major change in your way of eating. To be successful, you need to decide that you are going to change... and to change, you'll need to do things that you don't always feel like doing.
