It's been 2 weeks and I have to admit that I'm really frustrated. My weight has fluctuated all across the board- from 270 (starting) to 263.5 and everywhere in between. Sorry men for the info, but my monthly appeared out of nowhere (not digging the new bc I'm on) and I'm wondering if that could really be messing things up that much. I've investigated all my food and nothing is off in that department. I am taking a lot of vitamins- I just noticed that my ginkoba and l-carnitine have rice flour in them, but did not know if that would throw things off enough given the small amount. Just feeling down.

Are these your morning weights? Or are you weighing more than one time a day?Originally posted by MagsOnFire! View PostMy weight has fluctuated all across the board- from 270 (starting) to 263.5 and everywhere in between.
Daily weight fluctuations are normal.
If you want to post a menu, with quantities and net carbs, we can see if there's anything there that might need tweaking.
Your period can cause an increase in the number on the scale.my monthly appeared out of nowhere (not digging the new bc I'm on) and I'm wondering if that could really be messing things up that much.
It's very unlikely for such a tiny amount to be a problem.I just noticed that my ginkoba and l-carnitine have rice flour in them, but did not know if that would throw things off enough given the small amount."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
I think this WOE throws some women off at the beginning. I know I had 2 in one month after I started this WOE and they were longer than normal. All seems to have balanced back out now. When you lose fat rapidly it ups your estrogen levels (some estrogen is stored in fat and released when you lose it). So things can get a little wonky in the fast losing stages. It will even out and yes it will effect your results until it does.

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
I weigh myself once a day- it's the first thing I do when I get up in the morning (after going to the bathroom). I keep my meals really simple- mostly eggs, meat- I've been having my carbs at night and it's either a can of green beans or a salad with ranch or bleu cheese. I don't go past 20 carbs. I've been drinking diet soda which wasn't a problem for me when I did this diet years ago, but I've had a baby since then and am MUCH heavier so maybe I'm not reacting well to the artificial sweetner?

You should be spreading your net carbs throughout the day.Originally posted by MagsOnFire! View PostI've been having my carbs at night
That's not enough vegetables.it's either a can of green beans or a salad with ranch or bleu cheese.
Undereating vegetables (net carbs) isn't going to help you. You are cheating yourself of nutrients, and certain nutrient deficiencies will slow down your metabolism, making weight loss more difficult.
Also, canned vegetables are full of sodium... which can cause water retention... and water retention will reflect on the scale.
Are you counting net carbs?I don't go past 20 carbs.
That can be a problem.maybe I'm not reacting well to the artificial sweetner?
Regardless, you don't need diet sodas. Feeding your sweet tooth is not going to help, in the long term.

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
I am 7 days into my round two of induction. In 2007 i was on atkins lost 75 pounds then went way off the wagon i've gained EVERYTHING back. Anyhow when starting atkins your monthly cycle can get CRAZY and it can cause a weight gain to show on the scale. I even got a yeast infection BOTH times i've started atkins which seems insane i think it's caused from the hormonal change. I am back on atkins because i know it WORKS if you work it. Thru your weight loss you will have many fluctuate in weight the goal is OVER time you will even out and the numbers on the scale WILL start to stay down for the long term. WATER is a huge key i've had stalls in my loss when i've added 2-3 more glasses of water over a few days it helps to get numbers going down.

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
On periods-- I also got two this month, and I'm on the pill (same one I've always been on). Very weird, but indeed, I chalked it up to a very dramatic difference in diet make-up. My calories are a sniff lower than usual, but mainly, it's the macros shift that must be doing something. I *never* have period irregularities. I am not freaking out. Now if I were pregnant...
Anyway: I'd be inclined to lay off the scale. Don't weigh every day. That would drive me bonkers because of the influence of waste matter, water retention, etc. Weight less frequently (no more than 1/week) and regain a little perspective.

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
I know there must be tons of threads like this, but I am having similar issues (well, I am a guy, so minus the monthy issues!). I started at 296, dropped to 284 in the first week, then only came down 2 pounds the next week (282). I took 2 weeks off the scale and today am back to 284 (staying on Induction the whole time). I am a FREAK about carb counting, I over count and under eat them so any given day I am several carbs under my 20. I thought it was diet soda so I cut that out completely and drink one double serving of black tea with half a pack of splenda per day, and water for all other drinks/meals. The only other sweets I eat is one, to 1.5 Advantage bars per day. I am in Ketosis, eat a salad and veggies almost every day, but am not losing weight.
If Atkins hadn't immediately and totally changed my life by eliminating my binge-eating tendancies I would be off it already, but I NEED this diet to feel like a 'normal' person and not binge eat every time my blood sugar dips a little.
So what can I do? I am at my wits' end on this. Here is what I usually eat in a a carb-heavy day:
Breakfast:
3 hardboiled eggs (1.8 carbs)
2 sausage patties (counting as .5 each = 1.5)
half pack of Splenda (.5)
Breakfast Total: 3.8
Lunch:
large can chicken/tuna (0 carbs)
Full fat mayo (0 carbs)
1 stick celery (1 carb)
3oz cheese (1 carb)
half advantage bar (1 carb)
Lunch total: 3.0
Dinner:
Zero carb meat (.75 to 1.0 pounds) (0 carbs)
cauliflower (2 cups) (6 carbs)
Lettuce (1 carb)
Blue Cheese dressing 6tbsp (3 carbs)
3oz cheese (1 carb)
Dinner Total: 11 carbs
Snack:
Advantage Peanut Butter bard (2 carbs)
dailty total: 19.8
I am not hungry, I have no cravings, my urine and breath smell - I have all the signs of doing this right, yet I am completely stalled! I can honestly say that I have never knowingly strayed from the plan (first time I can say that about a diet).
I did Atkins the quick and dirty way 7 years ago and lost 30 pounds in 6 months by eating meat, cheese, eggs, and atkins bars.
I would really, REALLY appreciate any feedback or guidance you folks might have because I am lost and I really need this to work.
Apologies to the OP for hijacking your thread, but hopefully the same guidance will help us both!

Looking at your menus, Meridien I can see two possible problemsOriginally posted by Meridien View PostThe only other sweets I eat is one, to 1.5 Advantage bars per day. I am in Ketosis, eat a salad and veggies almost every day, but am not losing weight.
1. Too much cheese - Dr Atkins said to eat only 3-4 ounces and to count each ounce as being one carb regardless of the actual carb count.
Your menu had 6 ounces of cheese plus whatever cheese is in the blue cheese dressing
2. The bars - if you look at the list of ingredients you will see that they contain foods that are not allowed on induction - soy, nuts, wheat etc. Better to leave them till you are at the rung of OWL where all the ingredients are allowed.
I know the package says 'suitable for all phases of Atkins' but to rephrase what Mandy Rice Davis once said "They would say that, wouldn't they".
It is our experience on this board that many people cannot eat them on a regular basis and lose weight.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: 14 days on and frustrated
Wow, excellent advice! I also just got off of Fitday and I think I might have been sabotaging myself with mayo. .54 grams net per tablespoon!
Maybe that's why I was better at this when I only ate meat, cheese and eggs!
Thanks a lot for the tips - I will start that tonight.

Mayo is fine to have. How much have you been eating?Originally posted by Meridien View PostI think I might have been sabotaging myself with mayo. .54 grams net per tablespoon!
That wasn't Atkins.Maybe that's why I was better at this when I only ate meat, cheese and eggs!

Originally posted by Meridien View PostThat is the net carbs, at least as I was calculating them, but sounds like I should be a little less forgiving of cheese and should drop my Advantage bar consumption.
i would eliminate those bars immediately. those things stalled my weight loss out.
