  • Italian Food?

What can I eat at an Italian resturant? My friend is having her baby shower there tomorrow, and I don't know much about Italian food. Just pasta and more pasta :geek! I am even thinking about not going b/c I am pretty sure there is nothing I can have and I don't want to be tempted!

This is just my opinion...but I would make sure that I look at the whole menu to see what the options are. THere are probably some good salads on the menu--and traditional italian dressing is usually low in carbs. Then I would just ask to have what I wanted. I'm sure they have chicken or veal or some other meat on the menu (good restaurants usually have fish too) and I would just asked to have the chicken/meat without any sauces (because it's hard to know what they put in the sauces) and just asked for steamed vegetables--they usually have some kind of squash/zuccini/broccoli for their pasta dishes. Actually, come to think about it, fetuccini sauces aren't always that bad....but, it just depends on what the chef decides to put in it...

Sorry that was so long :raving

If it's a real Italian restaurant, you'll be able to find grilled or sauteed meat or fish dishes. If it's one of these McSpaghetti's, call ahead and ask for the menu. You might be able to cobble a meal out of it.

Whatever you do avoid excessive sauces, meatballs (they contain bread crumbs), pastas (obviously), etc. Stick to the whole, non-breaded, meats and you should do okay.

The other thing you can do is eat before going. This will decrease the chances of you eating or overeating whatever is there.

Then I suggest as soon as you are finished with the 14 days to move onto OWL, because you will have a more nutrient-rich diet in OWL, then onto Pre-Maintenance. Your doctor is aware that a woman's nutrition before she gets pregnant is just as important as her nutrition while she is pregnant---OWL and Pre-Maintenance will give you more of those vital nutrients.
