  • 3rd day

Hello everyone, I'm new to Atkins.
Could you please look over my meals for the day to make sure I'm not making any major errors.

Meal 1 : Atkins advantage Caramel bar (3 net carbs)

Meal 2 : Steak 8 oz , and broccoli (about 1 and half cup) with cheese (7 net carbs ?)

Meal 3 : Atkins shake (2 net carbs)

Meal 4 : Two cheeseburgers (meat only) with 2 mini peppers (4 net carbs)

Meal 5 : three eggs with a small tomato (3 nets carbs ?)

Plus i'm having small headaches and feeling lite headed at times.

    Re: 3rd day

You shouldn't have ? by the net carbs. You can look up the counts at www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ or All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret or FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

We don't really recommend Atkins bars/shakes on Induction. The bars especially have ingredients that aren't Induction friendly. Plus, they are not meal replacements.

How much water are you drinking?

You are not eating enough vegetables.

The 3rd Rule of Induction says:

"3. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three loosely packed cups of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see Acceptable Foods)."

          You might need more water.

What's your current weight, if you don't mind sharing?

i'm having small headaches and feeling lite headed at times.
          Sugar withdrawal can cause that.

I would suggest entering your menu in FitDay, to see where your numbers stand and if you are eating enough.

And I agree with J. about products. The products stall some people (if you eat them from day 1, there's no way to know if/how they affect your weight loss)... and they can keep alive cravings for sugar/sweets.

So you're saying trash the Atkins Bars and shakes?

            What are good snack ideas?

              Yep.

              >> What are good snack ideas?>>

Anything from the Induction food list.

You might want to aim for about 130 ounces of water, too.

                Keep them for emergencies only.

Any food that has ingredients acceptable on Induction can be a snack. You can have some steak or chicken breast... or celery with cream cheese, for example.

I second the recommendation of Linda's recipes. Georgiana shared it with me yesterday and I've found so many nice things to make over there!

Almost anything can be "on the go". All you need is an insulated lunch sack and a frozen thing to keep things cold.

And try to get away from the "snack" mentality. If you follow Atkins properly, after a very short time you most likely will not be looking for "snack". Most people feel full after a meal and are good until the next meal, and don't need a "snack". Your hunger should decrease significantly.

If you still need a snack, make it a healthy choice from the acceptable foods list, Or a recipe with those ingredients. Make extra portions, and use those for your "snack".

Also scour the recipe links I posted for you and you should find Atkins versions for what you ate before Atkins.

                              Happy Atkins eating!
