  • FitMom (newbie) Starts Induction Tomorrow!!!

Hi Everyone!! Thanks for stopping by to read (first off). Secondly, I am so thankful to have found this site. The last wk I have had a really hard time, losing faith in WW, which I thought was a perfect way to find "Balance"...not so much. Hard when I like my protein and protein costs alot of pts (7 for salmon, plain??) ummm,.....ok I only get 20 Pts!

I wrote alot while setting up my profile; I used to compete in Fitness, I'm so familiar and accustomed to working out/eating right, etc, but after a rough couple yrs I got stuck at 150, slowly over a yr lost 10lbs and am STUCK in the low 140's - O and Miserable!!!

I am not seeking a quick change, but something I can make as a lifestyle that works for me! I'm moody, uncomfortable @ 140 and 5'5'' just feel chubby....

The last several days I have played with Atkins and slowly getting use to things...
Caffeine is hard for me- I reallllly LOVE IT!!! AND my SF Creamer and splendas!!! lol....

Heres an example of what I have eaten today....

6 egg whites (i dont like the yolks)
    6 pc of Bacon

grilled chicken breast- no heavy seasoning (lil Lowrys')
and 1 cup mix of Summer Squash/Zucchini

Lots of Ice Tea (altho not decaf & Coffee with a touch of creamer n 3 splenda total)

    ......

    Couple Questions?
Crystal Lite, is that acceptable or NO?
    heavy whipping cream? on Induction?

ANY TIPS TRICKS, PERSONAL SUGGESTIONS OR WHATEVER PLSSS PLSSS I WOULD SO GREATLY APPRECIATE!!!

    THANKS AGAIN FOR READING!!!!

Re: FitMom (newbie) Starts Induction Tomorrow!!!

    Hi Lindsay

Welcome to our international ADBB family

After eating a lowfat diet it will probably be a bit difficult to get into Atkins which is a high fat/medium protein/low carb way of eating so might take a while to get your head around the principles of it. We aim for somthing like 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs on induction, but these ratios are not set in stone

It seems to me that the menu you posted was a bit light on the fat part and heavy on the protein, so might need some adjusting.

The creamer probably has some non-induction ingredients so if you can change that for some real cream instead it will help get your fat percentaage up.

Depending on how much fat there is in your bacon you might need to add some butter to your eggwhites to put back some of the fat that not eating the yolks loses. On Atkins we tend to use the whole egg as the yolk contains most of the nutrients in an egg too.

Was the chicken skinless? You did not mention using any dressing with your salad either - again this seems too low fat for Atkins - maybe add some sort of fullfat dressing - oil is good or if you cna find one of the mayonnaises that are made without added sugar you could use that or make your own.

Are you still exercising? If so, well done for including exercise from the start, if not then think about resarting some if you can.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thank You for writing!! I was just using the weekend to 'tinker' with atkins- practice as you will...
I had been weighing 141.8 over the weekend and this morning was 140.6!!!! Just from tinkering?? lol....YAY...

I eat only egg whites bc the yolk gives me well... gas! bad....so this morning I added butter to them...

Chicken was breast on the grill- no skin

Salad on Induction I thought I was ONLY allowed Oil/vinegar -- atkins website says dont use olive you seasame or something else?

I bought real heavy cream last night & butter last night.

Breakfast so far so good...but Im actually not able to finish it all But ..lol...
I had too much bacon bc I woke starving but then as I made my eggs not so much NOTE TO SELF:: learn self control!!!

But it was: 8 pcs bacon ( 2 pcs is 70 cals) 6 egg whites (guess i have more egg whites bc I dont eat yolks....?!?!

Im confused on Egg Whites- carb count....??

Dinner was 6 oz of Salmon & 1 cup Broc

According to DANDR 2002 which is the one we follow here we can use virtually any kind of vinegar or oil.
For salad dressing use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
So check labels for any commercial salad dressings and if they have no sugar listed in the ingredients list and are low in carbs they are OK
        Fats and Oils
Many fats, especially certain oils, are essential to good nutrition. Olive oil is particularly valuable. All other vegetable oils are allowed, the best being canola, walnut, soybean, grapeseed, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils, especially if they are labeled "cold-pressed" or "expeller-pressed."
Do not cook polyunsaturated oils, such as corn, soybean and sunflower oil, at high temperatures or allow to brown or smoke.
Butter is allowed. Margarine should be avoided, not because of its carbohydrate content, but because it is usually made of trans fats (hydrogenated oils), which are a serious health hazard. (Some non-hydrogenated margarines are available in health food stores.)

You need not remove the skin and fat from meat or fowl. Salmon and other cold-water fish are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids.

I cannot stress strongly enough that trying to do a low-fat version of Atkins will interfere with fat burning and derail your weight loss.
