  • I had my birthday and guess what?

I had my birthday on Friday and it was day 7 of Induction (I started Atkins WOE back in January but never really did induction and I should have so after veering off plan a few weeks and regaining a little I am back on induction, totally dedicated and determined to do it right this time). So considering my dedication to this WOE I decided ahead of time that I wanted to skip birthday cake entirely, in fact I decided to skip dessert, even a low carb dessert, completely (which I have actually been doing more and more as induction continues, I am trying to ditch the sweet tooth, not even SF gelatin!). My family thought I was nuts. We went out to eat that night and I had my favorite cut of steak - prime rib - and asparagus and donated my cheese bread that they wouldn't sub for more veggies for me (darn them!) to my son and husband that still insist on eating carbs lol. It was a 16oz cut steak and sooo juicy. I enjoyed every bite and didn't stuff myself. It was the perfect amount of food and I didn't feel one bit guilty though my husband who had just ordered appetizers (and I stole a piece of his roasted artichoke) gave me all sorts of guff about eating such fatty meat lol. It didn't stop me. It was a treat I was allowing myself in leiu of cake of any kind and honestly, I didn't miss it one bit. My family did miss it at first, but after that meal, no one wanted dessert! It was undoubtedly the best birthday I have had in a long time and considering I am now officially in my mid-thirties, I feel younger than ever and my skin is better than ever too. I am so proud of myself for not only putting my foot down on the cake issue (it is not required to have cake on your birthday, no matter what anyone says) but also realizing that I honestly did not miss it one bit! The best gift was spending time with my family and enjoying their company that evening. I have lost at least 5lbs since I started back on induction on April 3rd (yes, I had no cheats or candy on Easter Sunday either) and I don't feel I have missed out on anything! This truly is my new way of life. I mean really, if it is going to be the way I eat from now on (not necessarily induction levels but you get what I mean) why let holidays and such derail my efforts? There is always a way to LIVE and still eat the foods I enjoy that bring me good health and happiness! I LOVE this way of eating!!!!! It has completely removed my cravings in just a short week or so.

Just wanted to gush a little. I am so happy! I haven't weighed myself since Thursday and don't plan to until next Friday but I am so excited about how in control I feel and how happy and energetic I am. I have even kept up my exercise without missing a beat. So great!

Thanks for reading! Atkins and totally rocks! I am not that impressed with some of the things the new Atkins site is telling people - I mean I started out there and gradually have ended up here because I like the purity of sticking to what Dr. Atkins has written. New studies and science still supports what he has written and its stood the test of time! I don't eat the bars or shakes much to be honest though I have had a couple when in a pinch (like when hungry at the movies I had a bar once) but its just as easy to pack meat and cheese so I started doing that instead this time around. I lose better and feel better without them but look at them as an occasional treat and to be used mostly after induction if hardly at all. I enjoy this being an inexpensive, natural foods diet in my opinion. My diet has really changed for the better eating this way and I don't need things produced in a factory to survive, but again, an occasional treat in the future probably won't cause me too much trouble. I just don't want to take the chance of it stalling me - especially during induction! I also have given up most asparatame items I used to have and now buy diet sodas that use splenda only and I limit them. It's helped me a lot to read the information here and in the book so that I can finally do my induction right. Water is my friend!

P.S. I need to change my status and details about my phase but will do that shortly. Have a great day all!

Re: I had my birthday and guess what?

I have noticed my skin is a lot more supple than other women in their mid 30's like me. I am having no cake on my birthday either. That is not until August though, I hope to be to my goal by then.

I just noticed in you're signature we are about the same height. I could never weigh 150, I have an extra large bone structure though. My smallest size ever was a 14. I am an 18 now so I don't have far to go to get to a 14 again.
    35, 5'10 1/2
    start weight 280
    lost 65 pounds
    goal weight 190, for now
I will see if I need a new goal after that one
    25 pounds to go!
    I love my water!

Ahhh, yes I have a small to medium frame (though I am pretty hourglass shaped so sort of a "full figure" but I have been at that weight before and liked it there so I picked it as a "pie in the sky" goal but honestly, with Atkins, I think I can finally get there and stay there. I was super skinny growing up (131-135lbs in high school) so I am not wanting to get back there but I would definitely like to try to get close. 145-150 would be perfect I think for me. After 4 children I have to be somewhat realistic! HAHA! Congrats on your loss so far! You're doing great! I am still somewhat new to this WOE but I am learning and trying to really throw myself into it instead of my half-hearted efforts of earlier this year. I think I just needed time to wrap my mind around this big change in my way of life - but now I am finally ready! We can both do this! Your goal is very doable, I think you can totally do it and be happy there! Good for you!

Oh and I just realized I need to update my age in my signature lol! Those darn birthdays just keep coming along! Lol. Much as I try to keep them at bay...;-)

          Happy Birthday!

I would consider writing the restaurant a letter about not substituting vegetables for bread ... and I would certainly not go back unless they had a satisfactory response!

I am also a mom of 4.I am 35. I was a body builder through high school and am still pretty muscular. I am also lifting weights again, getting back that six pack I had that I lost at 21 after my son was born.

I agree! I mean what was that about? I have to have bread AND potatoes? At least they subbed the potatoes but the bread was too much to ask apparently! You'd think for a $30 dinner, they would have been more accommodating! Oh well, I think I go to that restaurant once every 4-5 yrs or so....I guess its not a big deal but sad they weren't more flexible. Thanks for the idea though, I might just write them a note after all, I mean if I am going there even just every few years, it should be a good experience! Not that I am complaining, that steak was like butter...yummmmmm.

Wow! We have a similar history - I also lost my abs pretty much with the first child. Then I had the first three, back-to-back. Whew...hard work and bye-bye abs and figure! Lol. I just never recovered after that and neither did my tummy skin lol. As for the weights, I am bad about that, I am a total cardio girl. I think maybe if someone paid me to lift weights I would, I am so bad! I know I should I just don't. Hmmm....
