  • Just Beginning, help!

I am just beginning the induction part of the Atkins diet. Today I have only eaten Sausage & eggs for breakfast and Lemon pepper Rotisserrie chicken w/ a small salad for lunch. I have snacked on Pork skins & have drank only water with the hawaiian punch packs. Pls provide feedback on how I need to eat, how much, how often....what can i eat. I have both books and have read them but would like some feedback from ppl that have done the diet with success. I am currently 5'6, 235lbs. How much weight should I expect to lose during induction? Thanks,

    Welcome to ADBB!

What "both books" have you read? There's more than 2 books! We follow Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002) here.

The problem with your eating today is you didn't have enough vegetables.

And the Hawaiian punch packs don't count as water ... and the limit of sweeteners is 3 servings per day, so I'm guessing you went over that.

Did you make the rotisserie chicken?

Here's what you can eat (it's the same list as in Chapter 11 of DANDR:

Here's the Rules of Induction from the same book:

As to what you should "expect" to lose during Induction? Honestly, you shouldn't "expect" any specific number. Your body will lose what it will lose. You can't force it.

Thanks! I am reading the 2002 New diet revolution book. I also have the very first book. I was under the impression that I couldn't have vegetable during the first 2 weeks. I really need to thoroughly read the book to be sure I am doing it correctly. The Hawaiian punch packs are like Crystal Lite and are sugar free.

They might have no sugar but I assume they have some sort of sweetener in them? We are allowed up to 3 servings of the sweeteners listed in your copy of DANDR2002 and one serving of a drink ir reckoned to be 8 fluid ounces. So you might be overdoing your sweetener 'allowance'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Even in 1972 one had vegetables the first week.

            They're still not water.

Hey! Also, just something you might want to watch is the Sausage! Check the label to make sure there are no nasty surprises in there.

                Re: Just Beginning, help!

The book has some sample menus. Also, there are recipes and menu threads on this board that are sometimes helpful if you want some variety in your foods!

I try to stay away from processed foods if at all possible. I don't always stall out on them but can. You could have eggs & sausage for breakfast, maybe a big salad with induction friendly veggies and a protein for lunch and then a protein and an induction friendly veggie for dinner. If you need to snack, pick some veggies, cut them up and have them handy or how about a hard-boiled egg?

Do you use fitday.com? Its a great way to see what you are eating and how many calories, carbs, fats etc.

for example today my menu will look "somewhat" like this:

B-tuna w/mayo and some veggies thrown in
                L-large salad w/chicken
D-1% ground turkey made into burgers and a veggie or salad

I snack on veggies or sometimes just a handful of sunflower seeds.

I am certainly not an expert on this, but really have learned alot from the boards here.

                You can do it!!

When I was a newbie, I found it extremely helpful to keep a copy of the Induction Acceptable Foods List and the Rules of Induction with me. From those two things, I fashioned my meals and I knew what I could eat and how much of it I could eat.

I learned through my years here at ADBB, the biggest mistake people make is doing Atkins the way they were told to do it by their friends or the way they thought it is done. There's plenty of misinformation about ATkins. Trust me----I've seen "Atkins" done by eating only meat and eggs ("because that's what my mom did and she lost tons of weight!") or by eating only beef ("well, that's how my uncle lost his weight and since he lost it that way, that's how I'm going to do it too."), etc.

You might want to read the book for yourself and see if the diet is something that you can commit yourself to doing. You're the one who is going to do it, not your friend. So read the book and see if the diet makes sense to YOU. Don't do it because your friend thinks it will be good for you. Do it because YOU think it will be good for YOU.
