  • Fiber question PLEASE Help

    I have been on induction for 6 days now and havent went to the bathroom once... Sorry but I am sure this has happened to others.
    I drink between 8 and 15 20oz glasses of water a day and do not have more than 3 oz of cheese.
    I saw the metamucil was one of the recommend fibers to take (with no sugar added) So I went to the store to buy some and on the nutrition list they all had sugar in them and carbs... So I have 3 Questions.
    1. Is that normal & and is it a problem on induction? I was looking at metamucil and the generic?

    2. Do I have to count the carbs listed in my 20 net grams a day?

    3. Can you take it in the pill supplement form instead of putting in in a glass of water?

    You can get metamucil capsules (even generic) that do not contain sugar.

    Yes. Don't forget to subtract the fiber though.

    Yes.

    Along with how much water you've been drinking, how much have you been eating in vegetables?

    Keep in mind that fiber supplements don't work for everyone ... they can have the opposite effect.

    You might want to try:

    Muffin in a Minute

    Serving Size: 1

    1/4 cup flax meal (8.09 total carbs, 7.6 fiber) (30 g)
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder (0.64 net carbs)
    1 packet splenda packet (0.9 net carbs)
    1 teaspoon cinnamon (1.84 total carbs, 1.2 fiber)
    1 large egg (0.6 net carbs)
    1 teaspoon butter

    (total carbs is 12.07, fiber is 8.8; net carbs is 3.27)

    Put the dry ingredients in a coffee mug.

    Stir.

    Then add the egg and the butter. Mix.

    Microwave 1 minute (or more). Take out. slice, butter, eat.

    Set the mug to soak.

    Cream cheese would go nicely, too.

    The shape of this can be changed by making it in a bowl.

    It can be "toasted" once it's cooked.

    The cinnamon can be replaced.

      Thank you for replying so quickly.
      I have been eating lots of veggies.. at least 1 to 2 cups of lettuce every day. I include small amounts (1 to 2 oz) each of green peppers, onions, mushrooms
      I have a very small tomato every day (3 oz each)
      raw cauliflower 1/2 cup (have to choke it down so I havnt ate everyday)
      2 to 3 celery sticks approx 6 inches
      5 green olives

      Do you think that is enough vegtables ?? I am using fitday to add everything up and so far I havnt went over 20 carbs. I am about 18-20
      I think my veggie count is between 12 to 15 carbs

      Can you recomend a fiber pill brand w/out sugar in it ?
      I looked at everyone on the Walmart shelf today and they all had sugar listed in the nutrition scale. (I didnt look at the ingredients)

      I will try the muffin in a min. It sounds really tasty
      I have never bought flax meal before. Where do you find it in a store?

        I tried a generic metamucil. There was no sugar in it. Make sure you read the list of ingredients.

        You might be able to find flaxmeal in the "specialty" section if they have one ... with "whole foods" or baking supplies. Ask at the service desk.

        I get mine from amazon, and every store is different!

            Do you like cauliflower if it is cooked? I like to grate and microwave it and use it as rince under a curry or in a stirfry dish.
            Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

              If you don't like cauliflower, then you don't have to eat it at all. Just pick some other vegetable that you like.

                Also, how much fat are you having? Fat can help with constipation.

                  I actually do like cooked cauliflower however I have only ever had it in those green giant frozen veggies and sauces... Which is now in the past... I will have to look at some induction friendly receipes to see other uses. I did add some cauliflower to my chicken salad for today.
                  I actually bought the cauliflower to make the pizza crust with. But I thought over time it would grow on me... it hasnt happened yet but if I am going to stick with this for the long haul (which I am really determined) then I need to learn to like a variety of vegtables.. I think it is one of those things like when I was young.. I would have never ate a mushroom or pepper (green, yellow, red, hot) and now I love them.

                    I did start logging everything into fitday on day 3.here are my statistics
                    April 10th Tuna, Chicken, Egg, Hamburger patties only had 1tbs mayo
                    Calories 1571
                    Fat g 91.2
                    Carbs g 10.9 ( i know really low this day)
                    Protein g 167.7

                    April 11th Chicken, Egg, Taco Meat
                    Calories 1218
                    Fat g 78.5
                    Protein g 101.4
                    Carbs g 21.2 (my carbs for the peppers is higher on fitday than it listed on the package so I was going by what was on the package)
                    also I couldnt find just taco seasoning on there so I put in what they had listed as beef taco filling beef, cheese, tomato, taco sauce and I went by what was on the packages)

                    April 12th Egg, Chicken, 1 slice of bacon
                    Calories 1159
                    Fat g 69.3
                    Carbs g 19
                    Protien 112.2

                    April 13th Chicken, Ham (watched sugar), Bacon 1 slice
                    Calories 799
                    Fat g 47.9
                    Carbs g 17.8
                    Protein 73.0

                    April 14th
                    So far today I have had one Egg but I brought 4 oz of chicken salad for lunch made with celery stick, pickle spear, 1/4 cup cauliflower, tsp. mustard and 1 tbls mayo... And I have peice of string cheese for a snack.

                    So with all that do you think I am Not getting enough fat and calories... I am not trying to watch the fat or calorie intake... just seem It is taking me awhile to get the hang of it without going over the 20 g net carbs...

                    I just wondered is the Carb count on Fit day total Carbs or Net ?

                      What is the % of fat ... you can get that from the Calories Eaten Today window.

                      Fitday shows you TOTAL carbs ... you can get the fiber from the calories eaten today graph and subtract.

                      Your calories are low overall.

                      Your carbs are low, too, since you haven't subtracted the fiber.

                        I've always had problems with this. I tried the muffin-in-a-minute (and it is delicious), but it didn't work for me. It helped to make a really thin oatmeal-style flaxdish so that the seed meal absorbs all the water and you don't have to wait for this to happen in your digestive system. I used 1/4 cup flax, some cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, splenda, 1 tbsp cream, and added water to cover the flax and then some. I microwave this for about 5 minutes and then let it sit a minute. I've started having this first thing in the morning and it has really helped. I've also tried abdominal massage with some success.

                          Ok.. I went back and looked
                          4-10 52% fat
                          4-11 56%
                          4-12 53 %
                          4-13 53 %

                          I just have to Say... Thank you so much Everyone is so helpful.... I now see that my net carb count is hanging around 15 g ... So I need to eat more veggies

                            For constipation, which I rarely get on this WOE. I use 3,000 mg Vitamin c and a 250mg magnesium pill. Works like a charm, dh also uses it if needed.
