  • Day 4 of induction - so many questions!

Hey everyone. I'm brand new here, and today is my fourth day of induction. I'm feeling really great about it so far! I have a handful of questions I'd like answered before I get too far though, and I thought this place would be a great place to ask!

    1. My fat tends to be slightly lower than 65%. I average from 55-65%, but mostly I'm around 58-61. Will this lead to issues? If so, what are some ways to add more fat in my diet? I cook liberally in olive oil (my spinach can be drenched in it!), and I eat 3 ounces of full fat cheese a day. I've been trying to add in bacon when I can, but sometimes I just don't feel like it.

    2. I know the book (mine's from 2002) says we should eat a max of 3-4 ounces of cheese in induction. I've been aiming for 3 since I'm a woman, relatively small, and cheese has some carbs/can stall weight loss. I figure that's one of the upper limits, so I probably shouldn't push it...but sometimes I really want a fourth ounce. Given my circumstances, would that be pushing it? I keep my carbs below 20 every day and my veggies to 3 cups (2 of salad veggies).

    3. I haven't felt sick, nauseated, or had a headache once. I feel like induction is going pretty easily for me. I'm also dropping weight fairly quickly, which is fantastic. But I have this awful, weird taste in my mouth. When does that do away?

    Welcome to ADBB!

This may be enough for you, or it might not. It's really too early in your journey to tell.

    >>sometimes I really want a fourth ounce.>>

You'll have to see if you can tolerate it. Again, time will tell.

    >>I have this awful, weird taste in my mouth. When does that do away?>>

That's a sign of ketosis. It goes away when it goes away. There's no timetable.

    >>I keep my carbs below 20 every day>>

How "below"? And you know it's NET carbs, right?

      Hey Thanks for responding!

I know it's net carbs. I pulled up my diet tracker to see how many per day. I track everything so I can look back and figure out what it is, if something's going wrong.

      Yesterday (4/14): 19 net carbs
      4/13: 16 net carbs
      4/12: 13 net carbs
      4/11: 20 net carbs

It really depends on the veggies I eat, how close to 20 I get. On 4/12, I ate spinach for all 3 cups, which was really low in carbs. On 4/13, I had 2/3s my veggies as spinach, which also led to a slightly lower total

So now you know you can't really do that.

        Variety is good.

And is that fresh spinach or frozen?

Butter, fattier cuts of meat, 1/2 an avocado...

Haha, I know, but I LOVE spinach. I think 2 cups plus one other veggie is a good mix for me. Spinach sauteed in olive oil is incredible! But I won't be eating all three cups as spinach again.

Also, it's fresh and raw. I buy those large containers of raw organic baby spinach, and I sautee it as I feel like it. I'd never eaten it cooked until atkins, and I suddenly found I LOVE IT.

I don't like avocado (or olives or nuts - all "healthy" fats, lol), but butter I can do. I could probably add some butter to most steaks on top. I may have to look into some actual ground beef instead of ground sirloin, and cut back on the chicken. I actually prefer leaner meats, oddly enough, but I'm sure I can add in some better cuts! What are the best ones to try?

You can make your own herb butters or even flavour butter with spices I bet too, to give different yummy tastes.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
