  • Stuck, please help!

Hi all, I am new here I am on my 1st week of atkins but it seems my weight is stuck, i lost about 5 pounds, i was 83.3kgs and now i am 80.8kgs but the past three days its stuck in the same weight!

Looks like my carb tolerance is very low, i was eating very tasteless fried and grilled chickens with almost no coating over it! But the past 3days i have added some vegetables and processed foods like Sausages and ready to eat precooked chickens because i dont know how to cook! So my weight loss has just come to an halt.

I added 140gms of egg plants/day,1 tomato/day,4tea spoons of black pepper, 8-10 chicken sausages,4 small cubes of cheese or if i don't cook on some days i go in for precooked frozen foods! I read the labels and none of them exceeds the carb limit. Could it be my carb limit is less than 10gms a day? I have noticed i lose weight if i quite, sausages and eat really dull and disgusting oily stuff. For a guy who cant cook anything takeing away sausages and frozen foods pretty much ends my diet! Please Please help.

    Thanks.

P.S.. I forgot to mention but some of those packs say added sugar but the Carbohydrates does not exceed 6 or 7grms. How much does the sugar effect me!

    Re: Stuck, please help!

The goal of the Atkins diet is to release the body's hold on the need for sugar, thus the reason sugar is not allowed and processed foods are frowned upon. Try to choose more whole foods. You don't have to have bland chicken. Spice it up, add a little cheese, wrap it in bacon.

Cooking on Atkins is easy (I enjoy cooking and I'm a guy), you just need some direction. Check out this website Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home. It has tons of great recipes. Look for the ones with a (*) next to them as they are Induction friendly.

When you read the package, if you see the word "sugar" in the ingredients, put it back on the shelf!

It is absolutely normal not to lose weight every day. However, you have not been following the plan correctly.

i was eating very tasteless fried and grilled chickens with almost no coating over it!
If you were eating no vegetables, you were not doing Atkins. What book are you following... if any?

But the past 3days i have added some vegetables
      That's a good thing.

and processed foods like Sausages and ready to eat precooked chickens
      And that's a bad thing.

Sausages likely have grains and/or sugar (e.g., dextrose). Precooked chicken likely has sugar as well.

because i dont know how to cook!
No one was born a chef... and cooking is not rocket science. Get a recipe book or look up some recipes online, and follow the instructions.

For recipes, you might want to check:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

      I added 140gms of egg plants/day,1 tomato/day
      That is not enough vegetables.

Here are the Rules of Induction:

      4tea spoons of black pepper
Are you sure you're measuring that correctly? That's sounds to me like a lot of pepper.

      4 small cubes of cheese
How much is that in ounces? Cheese is limited to 3-4 ounces per day. That's about 85-113 grams.

if i don't cook on some days i go in for precooked frozen foods!
Umm... did you read the ingredients in those? I bet they are not really Atkins friendly... let alone Induction friendly.

I read the labels and none of them exceeds the carb limit.
It's not only about carbs. It's about ingredients, too. The quality of the food you eat is important.

Could it be my carb limit is less than 10gms a day?
I very much doubt. You should follow Atkins correctly first... and, as I wrote above, 3 days with no change on the scale is something normal.

You should also be counting net carbs. That's total carbs minus dietary fiber if you are looking foods in the USDA database or FitDay. If you go by the label, then UK labels list net carbs for carbohydrate.

How much water are you drinking?

          No.

          >>what do i do if i want to grab something, >>

You grab something legal. Have things prepared and at the ready.

Throw out chocolate buscuits. No sane people keep those in their house. Throw them out now and clean up all crap. Start eating better this moment. No putting it off to tomorrow. If you want to straighten up and lose weight carpe diem.

That's an excuse. And I've been there before.

You have to change how your brain works.

Find a way to keep yourself motivated. I have a list of reasons why I should stay on Atkins and change the way I eat taped to the mirror in my bathroom. Things like the fact that I have high blood pressure, my shirts and pants don't fit, my bed is uncomfortable and wavy because I am big, my family loves me and is worried about me, my girlfriend loves me unconditionally and wants me around for a long time, etc...

I read that list every morning when I take a shower. I see that list several times at night when I'm taking my whizz's (4-5 liters of water a day causes me to see it a lot )

Take the advice of the mods and long time members here, they know what they're talking about. Plan your meals. Eat vegetables. That's hard for a lot of people (including me) but you can work them into things like quiches and casseroles with other ingredients. Drink at least 64 oz of water (more) a day.

this looks like i have to do everything sort of diet!
No pain no gain (or loss, lol). There's nothing to it but to do it. It gets easier. Just grab some recipes and go. Spend a night making stuff to freeze for the rest of the week so you don't feel like you have to cook all the time. All it takes is a few hours at the beginning of the week. Prepare everything and have it ready so when you need to grab something, it's right there ready to go.

              It's a total commitment.

I do this too and it makes all the difference in my eating, food costs, and preparation time each morning while getting ready to go to work. It would normally take me 30 mins a morning to get my breakfast and lunch ready and if I have it all made up ahead of time and I just have to grab it then it saves me loads of time later! Plus then I don't have to cook every day (I can cook, I just HATE cooking) and then my family is not forced to eat out for dinner every night. Considering we spend $30-40 a night when we eat out, this saves us a TON of money and time. I would much rather grab a baking pan from the fridge and throw it in the oven at the end of the work day than prepare a 4 course meal any day! Lol. It can be done, believe me. I am SOOO not into cooking but once I make up my menu and shopping list for the week, get the stuff and cook it all up, I divide it between containers and I am good to go. It doesn't all go perfectly but the recipes on Linda's site have helped me a LOT. It's helped me make foods that are family friendly which is important because my kids and husband don't do Atkins. So I make the carb-laden side dishes for them and its tough for me to be faced with but I am doing well anyways. Atkins gives me a greater sense of self-control and I don't need to eat anything bad for me anymore! It takes time but its so worth it. I find cooking my own food also allows me more knowledge and control about what's in it. I can know the carb counts for what I have made whereas eating out, I am guessing or looking it up later online. I don't like having someone else in charge of what I put in my body!

A little prep on one day and you could be set for the week! Also be sure to get lots of those disposable entree containers, they freeze well and microwave well but if they crack or break, you haven't broken the bank. Its very helpful to have a few of those on hand when you're making your own food to freeze or refrigerate ahead of time. AND they are cheap. Also if you are going to be baking several different casseroles it would be good to either invest in some good bakeware (several of the same size?) or even cheaper, get some of those foil baking pans. You can get quite a few at a time and freeze your food to bake later and if it gets damaged, no big deal! Good luck, you can do it!!!

I often make baking foil 'parcels' with skinless boneless chicken breasts in them but first lay some vegetables like mushrooms and peppers down, then the chicken and then put a nice pat of butter with some herbs or spices on top. Then roll the foil over loosely and fold over all the edges so it seals it all in.

Then cook it in the oven for about 30 minutes depending on the size of the chicken (test by opening it up carefully then stick a sharp knife or skewer into the chicken and make sure the juices run clear - if still pink rewrap and cook for longer). It is hard to ruin this by overcooking it as the foil holds the moisture in and stops it getting dry.

You can make these up in advance and have some ready in the fridge to cook when needed or cook a load at once and then eat cold for another meal.

Another variation I do is to lay down first a slice of bacon on the foil, then the chicken then another piece of bacon and wrap it up and cook it, then when nearly done I open up the parcel and lay a slice of cheese on it and let it melt and brown - really yummy and decadent eating!!
