  • Help! V confused about when to move on to OWL

    Hey everyone,

    I'm 22 years old, female and started atkins 7 days ago. I weighed 198lbs and aim to weigh 135 (I'm 5'5 1/2).

In these 7 days, I've lost 11lbs. I'm obviously very very happy with that, but I'm a little worried that losing this much weight so quickly may mean that it's a bad idea for me to stay on the Induction for 5 weeks as I had planned.

Of course I realise the weight loss will slow down as I get slimmer, but I was wondering what everyone's views on this are. I am so happy to have lost this much weight so quickly, which is why I really want to keep the Induction going for longer than two weeks. Is this unwise?

Thanks guys, this forum is amazing!

Congrats on your great start but wait till day 15 to decide if you want to move to OWL or do more induction cause you are going to see a dramatic slowing of the pounds now that your glycogen stores with their huge water stores are gone.

DOing OWL can help you get more vits and minerals into your eating when you add the 5 net for induction veggies to those 3 cups you are already eating. ANd you can go slow in OWL and not run up to rung 9 in just 9 weeks there are some questions in your DANDR 2002 chapter 13 that can help you on day 15 decide if you should move to OWL or stay in induction longer.

Why were you doing Induction for 5 weeks?

        Hi Vicky

Welcome to our international ADBB family

You are off to a great start, but as 2big said, wait till you reach day 15 and then look at your progress before you decide which way to follow your Atkins rather than decide now.

Check the chart in Chapter 13 to determine your resistance to weightloss then look at the 4 questions in the following section to help you decide when to move to the main weightloss phase of Atkins.

OWL is an important part of Atkins as it is when we discover how many carbs we can eat while still losing weight and if any foods affect us adversely, and to do it thoroughly it does need some time, so you need to move to OWL with 'some' weight left to lose to help make it easier to tell if you are still losing
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
