  • Fat Intake on Induction -- 20 lbs to lose

    Hi All,

I'm sure this question has been answered a million times so I just want you to know that I did search for answers but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I'm on day 10. I've definitely lost a few pounds but I haven't been eating a lot of fat (I've never eaten high fat - I'm not specifically trying to limit it now but I've always been pretty low fat). I keep reading (in the book, on sites) that increasing fat will help burn more fat but I don't exactly understand how or why. Can anyone explain this?

I also think I'm a little nervous because I only have about 20 lbs to lose so I don't want to increase my fat intake because I'm worried with so little to lose I'll gain weight. Please feel free to tell me this is irrational but it was what I was thinking so I wanted opinions from others in this position. Is my thinking correct or incorrect given the low amount of weight I have to lose? Should I increase my fat intake?

Thanks, everyone!! I really appreciate any advice you can offer.

Re: Fat Intake on Induction -- 20 lbs to lose

Ok, from what I understand, eating more fat makes us burn fat because it takes our bodies longer to digest it, our bodies work harder to digest it. Someone please correct me if im wrong, but i think its along those lines.

And i think it also keeps us fuller longer, because it takes longer to digest haha, Im almost confusing myself now

Eating more fat from forms of protein (such as chicken, beef, fish etc) will NOT make you gain weight.

Thanks, Courtney! I appreciate it. I don't know why I've always been so fat phobic - clearly not eating fat wasn't really the way to go since I managed to put on 20 lbs! Thanks!!

Re: Fat Intake on Induction -- 20 lbs to lose

I am only 9 days in so a few days ago I posted my menu on the board to get the advice of the wonderful people who have been doing this for so long.. And they told me I had to bump up my fat. Although I have ALOT more weight to lose than you I stalled in my lose for 4 days. So that is why I posted.
I am in a mind set like you.. Fat.. What? I need to eat more Fat? hard for me to understand but I was told to.
I log everything I eat in Fitday and it gives you the Fat, protien, carbs
so now I am up around 63 % fat and 35 % protein. I have lost 8 lbs.
So I really believe it is truth..

The only way of eating for me that works would be higher counts of fat/protein. I know it doesn't make sense because we are made to believe that eating fat = be fat. As you can tell by many people on this site, it isn't the case.

No problem, I'm willing to help if at all possible lol, though I can be somewhat ignorant about some topics here.

Summerfun - I had just read your thread on that in between posting and checking back. Interesting. The people on this site are super helpful and reading your menu thread was really helpful so thank you!!

Courtney - thanks again!! It's great to have resources from people who have experience!!

I'll be increasing the fat and maybe decreasing some protein. I feel like I've been living on egg whites so it'll be a nice change. : )
