  • Need some support

    Hi guys and gals,
I'm on my 5th day of induction and I'm not feeling so good. Last night was terrible. I had a great dinner and went to bed fine, but I couldn't sleep... I was a bit anxious. Anyways after a few hours I became so hungry that it was keeping me up, so I read a part in the atkins book which says if you're hungry eat, and if you're feeling washed out add a few more helpings of veggies - so since I was feeling both, I had some chicken and some salad.

I then went to bed only to wake up at 2 in the morning completely ravenous again!! I was shaking. So I had another meal of chicken and salad (measured portions). Today was ok, I ate a lot more than what I normally do but I'm still at 20 carbs a day. But now I've got a terrible headache and I really need a boost to keep me going for the next 2 days - once I've completed my first I think I will be ok to continue.

I've been looking at the atkins success stories but its not doing much good. I just need someone to tell me that the headaches will pass soon so I can keep going.

Headaches will pass . Personally I took drugs to take the edge off, but if you want to tough it out then I suggest chicken broth.

Hang in there, it gets better, I promise! Just remember why you're doing this and what your goals are, and how much happier you'll be in the end! Trust me eating off plan won't help your headaches, just tough it out!

Well I'm not actually sure - which might be the problem. I usually have veggies with every meal and I'm using livestrong for a carb counter and they have nutrient amounts which include both carb and fibre, they have an atkins group and I've asked there if I need to subtract the fibre or not - but no one has answered yet. In either case there is not much difference if I do subtract the fibre its only less than a few carbs. Today I had about 20 carbs and the total fibre is 3 grams, so I could take that away from my total.

You count net carbs, carbs-fiber=net carbs

Take some tylenol or something, no reason to suffer, it won't slow your weightloss down.

              You can do this

Does Livestrong use the USDA or it is user entry?

You might want to spot check your carb counts against the USDA:

                  Re: Need some support

It will pass, hopefully soon, but make sure that you are drinking enough water- at least 64 oz per day. Water is an essential part of Atkins, and not enough water can cause headaches - (with or without Atkins) so please manage you water intake well. If those headaches get in the way of your day to day functioning, don't be a martyr, take some Tylenol. Also sometimes when you are hungry it helps to drink some water first and wait a bit and see if that hunger subsides or is at least less than b4.

Good Luck and Hang in There you're doing great w/ tracking your carbs and sticking w/ the plan, i'm sure you'll do well!

                    Re: Need some support

I've had another look at Livestrong and most foods I think you can subtract the fibre and get the correct amount. However atkins and other low carb skew the results as they are still classed as carbs and not fibre - which isn't too much of a worry for me, because I try to avoid these products as I've had failures on them before... plus it has the net carbs written on the packet.

So, realising that some foods may not be as accurate I will cross reference the carbs just to be sure I'm calculating everything right.

On a good note, my headaches have subsided a little... yayayayay!
thanks for the support - I'm one of these peoples that can't stand feeling ill and after I herniated a disc in my back last week (an evil sneeze) I didn't think I could take much more!

Honestly just use Fitday or Fatsecret (I like FS more and more). If you make a recipe, I use the recipe calculator on Sparkpeople and then input those totals into Fatsecret as a custom food.

Yeah, I get terrible headaches when I first start induction. Advil for me and lots of water! I also get the "flu" pretty badly....A sign that I have a lot of toxins in me! All will subside if you stick to your guns!! The hunger at night could mean you are not getting enough fat or something in your diet. Maybe post a sample menu on the board or go to the review my menu area to have it checked....Worth a shot, they might find something you missed.
