  • Sugar Free Jello

I have been eating this since I first started this WOE. It doesn't make me crave other sweets or sugars at all. Should I still not have it during induction? I read somewhere yesterday that I shouldn't eat it because of the Aspartame so I haven't had it today. It makes me sad.

I am not really a jello eater.. but I do agree with you ... There are several people on the board that say it is a big no no in the first 2 weeks because it doesnt really help you kick the sugar habit..
I am so glad I dont like it.

I'm guess I will just stay off it and see how it goes. I also just noticed my my multi-vitamin has caffeine in it. Like 85 grams or something. Ugh! I hope these little things aren't holding me back. LOL... So many rules keep popping up daily even though I've read the book.

Your multi-vitamin has caffeine? You don't mean iron do you?

As to the s/f jello ... well, you know from reading your book that Dr. Atkins didn't like aspartame.

What nutrition is the s/f jello giving you?
        J.

          Re: Sugar Free Jello

Before I started the diet I was taking one a day multi-vitamin for active metabolism. When I started, I just kept the same vitamin since I like them. Then today for some reason I read the label and there was the caffeine. I don't know for sure about the Jello right now. I would have to look at the package. All I checked in the store when I bought it was the carbs and sugar and it had zero of those two things. I do know from the book that aspartame wasn't good, but I really thought that was only because it caused cravings. I will have to reread that part in the book though and see if I was missing something. I think I will just give it up to make things easier. The vitamins on the other hand would make me frustrated because of the money they cost. I hate wasting things.

Not everyone gives up caffeine. I would certainly continue to take them until they're used up.

            Do they also have iron?

What don't you know for sure about the jello?
            J.

If you bought unsweetened gelatin and used lemon or lime juice could you make your own jello? No idea how that goes. I use my liquid sucralose for sweetening when needed, which means no added carb (though it does count against my sweetener limit).

                Re: Sugar Free Jello

I bought my liquid sucralose online at someplace called sweetfreez or something like that....I love it!

I have never made the jello from scratch but wonder if you could also use flavored stevia drops or sf splenda syrups that are flavored?

I 'used' to use the SF jello awhile back, but fell off the track so not sure if that had anything to do with it. I am staying away from it this time and actually am doing boot camp which requires me to stay away from all sweeteners right now.

                Good Luck!

Yep, also use Sweetzfree. Pricey but it lasts a long time.

So is it ok to use Sweet n Low or Splenda if I can't buy the other stuff you all mentioned? (Stevia, liquid sweetner, etc.)

I thought it was allowed but limited to 2-3 packets/day.

                      Splenda = good (kind of)

Sweet n Low = bad (definitely)

                        Re: Sugar Free Jello

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this...

My multi-vitamin has 18mg of iron in it. I know the book say's that we shouldn't take extra doses of iron though so I may have to look into a new multi-vitamin. One of the reasons I chose Atkins was because I'm very anemic and in the past I've had to get blood infusions because the iron pills and shots make me sick to the point where I can't eat and when I do try to, I get sick. So since the pills and shots don't make me healthy again, the infusions do. My blood is tested regularly from my doctor and he suggested that I eat more meat. (Before Atkins I wasn't a vegetarian, I just can't stand the taste of meat so I chose not to eat it.) So that led me to the Atkins. I will check with my doctor about mixing the Atkins with these vitamins though.

Now for the sugar free jello:

                        Sugar: 0
                        Protein: 1g
Ingredients: Gelatin, Adipic Acid, Disodium Phosphate, Maltodextrin, Fumaric Acid, Aspartame**, Contains less than 2% of artificial flavor, Acesuflame Potassium (sweetener) Salt, Blue 1, Red 40.
                        ** Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine

(I copied that off of the box of my sugar free cherry jello box.)

I had watched a video of this girl who has been losing weight on the Atkins and jello was one of the foods she had on her shopping list. However, I've decided to give it up until after I'm through with induction. I have read mixed reviews on this board. Some people think it's okay while others don't. I will just keep it simple and take this out of my list of "can haves" for now. I've also taken away the sweeteners that I've been putting in my decafe iced tea I've been drinking until I can make a decision about which one to get. At first I was using sweet and low. Then I caved and bought splenda even though it's not a favorite of mine. I know I can have three a day, but I liked some of the ideas that have been given here, so I'm going to look into those.

LOL... I have NO idea about how to make my own jello. Before I was on Atkins I hated jello. (Unless it had fruit and whip cream in it.) Now I just eat it because it's the only thing that closely resembles a dessert.

Anyways, I've been losing one pound every two days pretty consistently for the last 6 days so I will keep on going. Today I received my psyllium husks in the mail. I had to order online because I was having a terrible time finding it. I just had some. It's like drinking uncooked cream of wheat. (Blah) I managed it though. Anyone else use this yet? My box say's that it has 4.5 carbs and 4.5 fiber. But it also say's that it's "No-Carb." I read somewhere that the fiber cancels out the carbs. This totally confuses me but I'm willing to try it.

                        Thanks for all the advice.

So what about jello that has citric acid in it?? I know were not allowed anything fruity really and i wasnt sure. Ive started induction over again yesterday coz i kind of fell off the wagon with bad health etc, but i had a small pot of jello yesterday and 1 today. Its a nice sweetness to my day I agree with you 100% on that dizzy girl!! the carbs in it is like 0.3g per 100g or something so its tiny. But is the citric acid a no no!??

Why do you need a frankenfood for dessert?

Why do you need dessert on a daily basis at all?

                              Re: Sugar Free Jello

Some people do. Some people don't. Personally, I wanted it to help me through my first few difficult months of eating this way. As I've already stated, I vehemently dislike the taste of meat. The only thing I have been eating that didn't taste like meat was the jello. When you first started was it just so easy for you to go without something you had eaten all of your life? If so then I commend you. However, I found it difficult. My family has always had a dessert every night after dinner so it's just something I've been used to. The jello helped me through the first month and I'm not eating it anymore. I lost weight pretty quickly even though I was eating it though so no harm was done. This is where my original question came in. Some say it's fine to eat, others say it's not. I guess it just depends on personal preference.
