Its a nice sweetness to my day I agree with you 100% on that dizzy girl!! the carbs in it is like 0.3g per 100g or something so its tiny. But is the citric acid a no no!??
I have no idea. I would have to look it up in my book. Although I do know off the top of my head that someone in the book ate grapefruit while on induction and grapefruit does contain citric acid. Do you have the book Nicola?

      >>When you first started was it just so easy for you to go without something you had eaten all of your life?>>

You're not going to like the answer. I was a pretty devoted chocoholic. I, too, had gotten used to having "dessert". When I started Atkins, I realized that both of those habits had to go. So, I turned my back on both of them.

Now, dessert is something special, regardless of what I was "used to". I got used to a different pattern in my life.

      >> lost weight pretty quickly even though I was eating it though so no harm was done.>>

Unless you still have cravings for sweet. Do you still have dessert every night?

Now ... as to the iron in your vitamin. If you have different iron needs, then continue to take the multi with iron. It's as Dr. Atkins said, if you have different needs, then do as you need.

        Re: Sugar Free Jello

LOL... Actually honest answers never bother me. I realized during my week that I took off while waiting for the book to arrive that I loved pasta a bread way too much so that was my form of chocolate. I realized during that week that even when this is all said and done, I'm not going to eat bread and pasta anymore unless it's a treat every once in awhile and even then it will be in small small small moderation.

The jello never made me crave for other sweets. I'm pretty committed to eating healthy this time. It's as though something has finally snapped inside of me. Which is why I gave the jello and splenda up right after I posted this the other day and started seeing some of the answers here and on different posts. I'm just trying to do this right because it's something I'm going to be doing for life. I'd rather kick all the bad habits now than keep living like I've been living for the past year. Thanks for you help.

Print that out and put it with your journal!

          You're welcome for the help.

            Re: Sugar Free Jello

I definitely will. My brother was mentioning to me the other day that Atkins was unhealthy. I told him that it couldn't be worse than the unhealthy way that I had been eating with all of my carbs and sweets.

Re citric acid - 2 or 3 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice is listed among the acceptable beverages, with a note to count the carbs for it (2.8 carbs per 2 tablespoons)

However I don't know if the citric acid in jello is just real lemon or lime juice or something chemical.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                        Re: Sugar Free Jello

So I too LOVE jello when on Atkins! It snot that I crave sweets, it is just nice to taste something with a friot flavor and it is different. I found this EXCELLENT jello recipe that makes sugar free jello with Diet Rite (which is the best diet soda that is made with Splenda). It is great because one batch has two cans of soda in it and it makes about 5 cups of jello so each cups isn't even a points worth of Carbs (although I still count each as one as not to mess up). There is also a recipe with Kool-Aid but i haven't tried it yet. The one with diet soda (prefferably made with Splenda) is great though. The Rasberry diet rite makes jello that tastes just like the sugar free raspberry you buy in the store. I use Here is the recipe:

                        With Kool-aid
2 envelopes Knox plain unflavored gelatin
1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid, any flavor
                        8 packets
Splenda sugar substitute, more if you like it sweeter

Dissolve gelatin in 1 C cold water.
Mix Splenda and Kool-aid in a large bowl and stir in 2 cups boiling water and the gelatin until dissolved.
Add 1 C ice cubes and stir for 1 minute.
Remove any unmelted cubes and put bowl in frig, or pour into individual serving dishes. Refrigerate till set.
Serve with whipped cream made with Splenda if you wish.

                        With Soda
2-12 oz. cans of any flavor diet soda with Splenda
3 packets knox plain unsweetened gelatin
You might want to add a little splenda the next time you make it if it isn't sweet enough for you.

Open one can of soda and sprinke all 3 packets of gelatin over it. Stir to mix. Let sit for 5 minutes. Meanwhile open the second can of soda and heat to boiling in micro. Add boiling soda to cold soda and gelatin. Stir for 5 min. till gelatin is dissolved. Refrigerate for at least 3 hrs. The gelatin will be firm and still have a slight snap from the carbonation.

Hope this helps you with your jello needs, it did for me!!!!

Thanks for posting that StacyCakes. I'm going to try it when I get off of extended induction. Also, I wanted to add that a lot of people here speak very highly of a person named Linda and her recipes. She actually has a recipe for Jello Fluff and she states that it's safe to use any sugar free jello brand. She has it listed as induction safe. Just FYI for those of you still wondering about Jello here is the link Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

We follow Dr. Atkins, not Linda.

While I have nothing but admiration for Linda, DANDR says we should avoid aspartame.

Of course, I realize that not everyone does.

I'm not a child nor am I an imbecile so please refrain from speaking to me as such. I'm well aware of who I follow and it definitely isn't you. Aspartame SHOULD (your words, not mine) be avoided "whenever possible" (Dr. Atkins, 230). He does go on to state that this includes diet Jello. The reason he states this is because it's his belief (not an actual case study, mind you) that Aspartame causes stalls. Everyone is different. If you eat Jello and your weight loss stalls or you find yourself craving different sweets, then stop eating it. However, if you are like me and your weight loss continues with zero cravings and zero stalls, then continue on. I stopped eating Jello even though I was still losing weight with it. My brother eats Jello and he's continued to lose 40 pounds in two months. According to Linda's site, she also lost weight while having Jello.

If occasionally having Aspartame is going to help some people stick with this WOE then they should do it. Proven point? Check out this from the Atkins success story site - Atkins Success Stories - Ruth Simkin (God forbid, it didn't come from this DANDR BB, I know. Shock and awe!)

You say that you realize not everybody stays clear of Aspartame yet you continuously come here and basically continue to beat a dead horse. Your opinions have been made and I've thanked you for them.

                              That is all.

Actually, I thought this was funny. I've followed Linda Sue for years now and at times it does seem that the low carb community follows her food suggestions! I have the utmost respect, admiration and appreciation for Linda Sue so this comment is not a dig.

OK, back to SF jello (jelly for our Brit friends). I still have a stack of these little blue boxes including our regional cranberry flavor. I used to eat them a lot because I never broke the habit of having to have sweets. I worked really hard on that last year when I started Atkins. Now *I* control my food; my food doesn't control me. Just saying...

More important, I've been trying very hard to eat real foods. Let's face it, jello is a product that is vacuous nutritionally. Why have it? That's the important point here IMNSHO. Whether aspartame causes weight loss stalls is a moot point.
