  • Induction Question Please Help!

    Hello all!

I am on Day 2 of induction. I purchased two books, one called Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution and one called The Atkins Essentials, which is 2 week guide about induction and more.

Even though I have read these two books, I am confused about some things.

When on induction, am I supposed to count the small amount of carbs in the veg and the meat and eggs? For instance an egg has .06. Should that be a part of my 20g per day?

I think I have been assuming there are 0 carbs in meat/fish/eggs because no specific amounts or limits have been given and I have been consuming these in unlimited quantities.

Have I been wrong to assume that there is anything on induction that can be consumed in unlimited quantities and by that I mean until satisfied? Is there anything that is sort of unlimited? How much is too much?

Also, in the special category, is that olives AND avocado AND cream(sour) per day or is it a choice of one?

My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I spent several hours reading through the thread and am still struggling.

Any help anyone could provide would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rosie.

I too have these same questions-can't wait for an answer.
What I've understood is we have a 20g carb limit which is including veggie, eggs, cheese, and anything else we eat/drink carb counts. And I count each egg I eat as 1 carb, so I hope I'm doing it right.

      [QUOTE=Rosie145;1221154]Hello all!

I am on Day 2 of induction. I purchased two books, one called Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution and one called The Atkins Essentials, which is 2 week guide about induction and more. Get rid of ther essintials and follow DANDR 2002

Even though I have read these two books, I am confused about some things.

When on induction, am I supposed to count the small amount of carbs in the veg and the meat and eggs? For instance an egg has .06. Should that be a part of my 20g per day? Yep we count all carbs that enter our mouths

We should be eating high fat moderate protein and carbs only from the chapter 11 induction acceptable foods lists. We consume only enough food to feed our hunger and stop even if we have room in our belly food on the plate and/or carbs in our budget each time we eat so if your hunger is satisfied with 4 wings and a cup of celery with bleu cheese then that is your limit. It will change each time you eat and should vary each days since we don't do exactly the same thing each day.

Also, in the special category, is that olives AND avocado AND cream(sour) per day or is it a choice of one? there should be commas between those items and an as well as ... after the last comma which from an english point of view would mean you could consume them all since only the cream and sourcream have an or in them. But be warned Dr Atkins does incluse a warning about how they might slow weight loss and if they do one should avoid them.

My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I spent several hours reading through the thread and am still struggling.

Any help anyone could provide would be most appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Rosie

So basically your answer is stick to the Chapter 11 list and count the carbs. No more than 20 grams per day, including meat, fish, fowl, eggs. There is a carb counter in the DANDR book so I will use that. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, why do they not tell us the carbs in the 2 cups of salad and one cup of veg? Is there that much variation among the choices? I am curious. What do people use for the egg count? 1 or .06. An ounce of beef? Chicken? Tuna?

There is a very wide difference in the net carbs of the vegetables on the 'salad' list as well as the 'other' list. Peppers have about 7 net carb per cup according to www.fitday.com whereas lettuce has less than one net carb!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

              Thanks, Elizellen.

I guess I got confused in the book when it said to eat "liberally" from the meat list and didn't give any rule of thumb carb calculations like it did for the cheese, ie 1oz cheese=1g carbs

Non processed meats have very very little carbohydrate content, hence the reason we can eat those liberally.

I took it as do we add in meat into our counting? Yes, I would count any protein, meat, fish, etc. Shrimp has some carbs, fyi.
